Amazon is making money off AI copies of books - and putting the onus on authors to prove they’ve been plagiarised.

Honestly, just stop buying books from Amazon. Get them from an actual bookshop or order them from a reputable book supplier like bookshop.org

Perfume helps me deal with Big Feelings and today’s feels demand a powerhouse for our #sotd so we’re going with Khamrah Qahwah by Lattafah. I was introduced to it by an Uber driver who kept a bottle in the car. I asked if I could sample it and was wowed by the longevity.

#sotd Pandan by d. grayi:
A yeasty, creamy, vanillic gourmand—all the things I love—with a bright earthiness from the pine that keeps it from being too cloying. The pandan note is gorgeous and lush. I ordered a full bottle after the first spray. I’m obsessed.

A massive problem today is the uneven distribution of shame. Some of us are running dedicated on-site shame servers 24/7 while others have no access to shame at all, even though they desperately need it. What we need to do is put shame in the cloud

My vague sense (based on a question I got from a recent graduate) is also that alumni of my institution eventually lose access to whatever university provided cloud storage they had while enrolled. They can end up losing a lot of their work because of it
I showed my students a term paper that I had saved with my professor’s comments on it from my freshman year 25 years ago. I asked them if they ever thought about keeping assignments they had written, and they looked at me like I had 3 heads.

Phillis Wheatley, first published African-American female poet, died #OTD in 1784.

Born in W. Africa, sold into slavery at 7 & one of the best-known poets in 18th-century America. Her achievements were a catalyst for the fledgling antislavery movement.

#sotd Scent of the day: Nearly Noon by DefineMe
A lot of interesting things going on in the open—fig, cardamom, rice pudding. But it dries down to a pretty underwhelming coconutty sandalwood. Meh.

#sotd Scent of the day: Celestial Object by Liis.
I get bitter almond and starchy rice paper. Very savory with little sweetness to my nose (but I love a sugar bomb). Barely picked up the top notes at all. Quite nice but probably not going to buy a full bottle.
