New Yorkers deserve internet access that is governed by the people, for the people.

Join us tonight! Tuesday, September 30th 6pm, Bushwick Public Library and on Zoom.
RSVP with the link in Bio
By comparing municipal internet service providers across 27 communities, over 85% of these community owned ISPs charged less than private competitors, using "clear and unchanging pricing" in comparison to private contracts riddled with fees and price hikes. Some of these prices were up to 50% less than the lowest-cost private alternative!
In Ammon, Idaho, (population 20k) every home has fiber optic access with 1 gigabit/second download and upload speeds for $30/month, rules that 9 different ISPs must follow?

For the past 15 years in Finland, Internet has been a basic right- alongside clean water, education, and voting WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO FIGHT FOR UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO HIGH-SPEED, RELIABLE INTERNET FOR ALL NEW YORKERS! This can include provisions for net neutrality, where no sites are throttled or given priority access, and stronger data protection rights to counter intrusive digital surveillance practices.
We can also build collective governance through community boards and resident advisory councils, expanding democratic participation and oversight in protecting quality internet access.
NYC already has massive amounts of municipal fiber installed across the city, including hundreds of city agencies, libraries, 1,800+ schools, hospitals, and more across the 5 boroughs. The city has numerous tools at its disposal to expand this network using the remainder of existing fiber pathways across the city. New Yorkers deserve internet access that is governed by the people, for the people.
Join the NYC-DSA Tech Action reading group TONIGHT to learn more about the history and bright futures for our internet access that are possible- if we fight for it!

Join us TONIGHT for the fourth meeting of our @socialists.nyc Tech-AI Justice Reading Group 📚🖥️🌹 In this session, we'll discuss our opportunity to supply all of NYC with affordable internet, taking control from corporate ISPs back into the community 🛜✊🏽

Join us at Bushwick Public Library at 6pm!
Internet for all is possible! Private control of internet access is a bad deal for New Yorkers 6 years after NYC sued Verizon for failing to build fiber city-wide in 2014 - leaving out nearly a third of NYC households - the court legally required Verizon to "prioritize the least-connected Community Districts and ensure connectivity for every NYCHA New York City Housing Authority) residential building," as low-income areas were most neglected.'
Spectrum's parent company Charter faced a similar lawsuit after defrauding NYC customers with internet speeds that were up to 80% slower than promised, leading to a payout over $174 million?
NYC also reported that Altice, the fourth-largest cable provider in the US, defaulted its franchise agreement with the city after overcharging customers. Last year Connecticut filed a similar lawsuit against Altice for deceptive billing and advertising practices?
Private interests will always prioritize their own profits, exacting tolls wherever they can while leaving New Yorkers without reliable access to the internet. BETTER, MORE AFFORDABLE MODELS HAVE PROVEN EFFECTIVE ACROSS THE US AND THE WORLD.

Democratic Party leadership that refuses to fight and folds in advance? You hate to see it. Tell congressional Democrats: Refuse. Shut it down. Fight Back.

This image features bold text and striking visuals intended to emphasize a political message. Here's an alt text description:

"An image with a bold red background and large white text reading: 'REFUSE. SHUT IT DOWN. FIGHT BACK.' Below the main text, a subheading in smaller font states, 'Donald Trump and the Republican Party are illegally seizing power in a blatant authoritarian power grab for them and their billionaire friends. It’s part of their plan to sow chaos in our federal government.' Further below, a call to action reads, 'We all must act. Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats must stop going along quietly with Trump and his nominees.' In the background, a black-and-white photo shows a protest crowd holding signs, including one that reads 'SOCIALISM BEATS FASCISM.' The image is branded with the logo of the New York City Democratic Socialists of America in the top-right corner."

Trump’s incoming EPA Administrator is talking about AI because he knows that the desperate search for profit in AI by tech capitalists is an environmental disaster. In NY State, we are fighting back with Senator Kristen Gonzalez. Join our letter campaign here: actionnetwork.org/letters/tell...

Why did so many working class New Yorkers vote for Donald Trump last week — and even more not vote at all?

I went to Hillside Ave in Queens and Fordham Rd in the Bronx to find out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7Fc...

New York must lead the way in protecting working class New Yorkers from dubious AI systems. The LOADinG Act will prevent state workers from being displaced by shoddy AI products and prevent AI systems from depriving citizens of State benefits.
