Just finished reading this wonderful book by @jpwarchaeology.bsky.social

Recommended reading for anyone with an interest in old buildings and an enquiring and critical mind…

"So then it was, 'What do you think of Marx?'

And I said, 'I think their pants have dropped off but you can't fault their broccoli.'"

[NB the laughs are so loud you can't hear the end of this line. I only know it because I pored over V Wood's script books Barmy and Up to You, Porky as a teen.]

Possibly something to do with my local arts cinema finishing at a time that means it now takes me an hour and a half to get home if I want to see anything in a decent sized screen.

God, but I want to like PTA’s films but I just come out feeling detached every time. Maybe my brain is hearing the Jonny G chords and can’t quite engage. Just can’t figure it.

I adore this 1930s house by the park w the miniature railway and now it is for sale. Knackered, but original doors, fireplaces, windows, just beautiful. I assume some vulgar suburban arse will rip the lot out, and replace it with that popular hideous grey

By coincidence, I am staying at a small hotel in Torquay. They have the book of Flay Otters scripts out in view at check-in. Up the road at the L_____ Hotel, the 70s lives on and the waiters look like a superannuated Manuel.

I’m old enough to remember when those on the left derided the whole Life of Brian/Judean People’s Front/People’s Front of Judea/“Splitters!” thing as a lazy centrist cliché. YET HERE WE ARE.
