One day you will develop a theory of mind
"Sick and tired of law enforcement overreach" describes some people, but far less than Bluesky would make you believe. But even amongst people who criticize law enforcement, "ACAB" is still a divisive slogan.

And of course he said a bunch of other stuff, as others have noted.
Whether this plays with the BlueSky crowd of Incredibly Online Leftist Millennials is relevant, I suppose. But it is definitely not determinative of whether it plays with Maine's incredibly old, moderate, idiosyncratic electorate.
Whether they "ought to" isn't really the question though, or at least it's not the only question.
Yeah, it is very important to see how this plays outside of the “millennials who are mad online” demographic.
Yes. Another demerit in my view, but not a dealbreaker. NIMBY conservationism is one of those things that comes with the territory in Maine.
which commonwealth are you talking about lol
What Mamdani said wasn't as bad, and he's running for mayor of New York, not statewide office in Maine.
UPDATE: apparently he used the r-word as well, which does offend me personally.
That's my interpretation of that word as well. I would say, with deference to others who may feel differently, that the r-word seems more problematic. Neither is great.
That was a response to a Canadian poster questioning the Maine referendum blocking the Quebec - Massachusetts transmission line.
“I have to ask, and I do mean this is the most charitable of ways, but are you retarded?” Platner wrote. “We shouldn’t have the eat the pain because you c*nts and Massachusetts couldn’t act like adults. F**k off and die, leave Maine out of your capitalist fantasies.”"
Nothing he says offends me personally, but from a pure electability standpoint it's a concern.
Yeah, a lot of people On Here are going to handwave this away because the revelation is basically that he had a relatively tame case of lefty poster syndrome.

But, that's definitely a liability when you're running for statewide office in a moderate New England state!
I yelled at you sometimes over there, sorry about that
I mean, isn’t the whole thing based on the fact that they are saying incredibly racist things within their all white group chats? If anything, it seems like being white is a prerequisite to knowing whether they’ve “always been like this.”
Moulton, Markey, Mills, Platner: all fine! Everyone chill out!
Vetting is fine. But it’s ableist if you allege without evidence that someone can’t do a job simply because they have a disability.
I‘ll go “on & on” about ableism for as long as you continue being ableist. I’m glad to see you’re finally shifting away from that and focusing on other points which have more merit.
I feel like you haven’t read what I’m saying in this thread. I have skepticism about Platner. I just don’t think we should be ableist towards him, just like I don’t think we should be ageist towards Mill.
I have no idea. People get PTSD from all kinds of things. People who get PTSD also go on to have productive lives and careers in all kinds of areas. He can’t go back into combat, but that’s not required to be a senator…
I’m not competent to do that and neither are you, which is why your insinuation that his disability prevents him from being a senator is ableism.
I specifically said the concern around his lack of experience and lack of vetting is legitimate...

What I am objecting to is you suggesting he can't be a senator because he has a disability, despite the lack of evidence that his disability makes him unable to be a senator. That is ableism.
It's fair to question his inexperience and the risks of running a relatively unvetted candidate. His Blackwater past seems like it could be an issue.

That said, we shouldn't replace ageism with ableism, and I haven't seen evidence that his disabilities would prevent him from doing his job.
Did you? That’s not where the thread starts!
