i do particularly love how Pondsmith explores the idea, including how the Cyberpunk movement itself begins to loses steam by the 2060/70s in the face of the seemingly immovable corporate machine and essentially becomes solely the vain, surface-level qualities you'd be right to criticize it for

cyberpunk protagonists usually are themselves "cyberpunks". even if he doesn't align himself with a specific movement, Deckard is a cyberpunk. Evangeline Morgan is a cyberpunk (in the weirdest way). basically all of Pondsmith's protagonists are explicitly Cyberpunks (or "Edgerunners")

something i think is often overlooked about Cyberpunk media is that the "cyberpunk" is not solely in reference to how the world is depicted or the themes explored - cyberpunk itself is usually an in-universe movement

a movement I'd genuinely be surprised not to see a real equivalent of eventually

like I don't know how it could be more obvious that this isn't some major fucking W against permission culture. the abolishment of IP would *hurt* billionaires and corps, this scenario you're arguing for is one where they just get to sidestep IP law entirely due to their money, power and influence
