Happy to share this piece ahead of the #EBRDam to join a conversation on impact measurement and reporting by @ebrd.bsky.social and other MDBs. Civic and citizen engagement must be part of it! #SDG16 #StandUpForHumanRights #Democracy
🔎How can the @ebrd.bsky.social gauge the effectiveness of its stakeholder engagement without any data?

In her briefing for the #EBRDam, @ninales.bsky.social argues that EBRD monitoring and reporting must improve to achieve sustainable development outcomes!

Nearly 90 civil society organizations from around the world, incl. @ceebankwatch.bsky.social, have expressed solidarity with Uzbek farmers and workers affected by dev. investments and joined the urgent call on the @ebrd.bsky.social and IFC to remedy the harm caused. These voices cannot be ignored!
In January #IndoramaAgro - one of the largest #cotton companies in #Uzbekistan - prepaid its loans to IFC & EBRD (tot. $130 million), while serious labor and human rights abuses remain unaddressed.

Abuses included
- #LandGrabbing
- #LabourRights violations
- #Reprisals
- #Environmental degradation

As the EU-Central Asia Summit begins in #Uzbekistan today, we urge the #EBRD and its European shareholders to uphold human rights in the country and ensure remedy for harm caused by its investments.
For years, workers, farmers & monitors have faced serious violations at #IndoramaAgro #cotton operations in #Uzbekistan.

They deserve #justice.

Join us & call on @ifcorg.bsky.social & @ebrd.bsky.social to ensure #remedy to affected people!

Since 2019, we’ve worked with affected communities to push for stronger #HumanRights safeguards in #EBRD investments. Thanks to Bankwatch colleagues & civil society partners, EBRD’s new E&S policy makes progress, but gaps remain. We’ll keep advocating for real accountability & development impact!
The @ebrd.bsky.social recently updated its policies. How will they protect communities?
@ninales.bsky.social has analysed to what extent the new standards advance transparency, human rights due diligence, stakeholder engagement and accountability.

A crucial message to MDBs at #FiCS2025 from Reitumetse Nkoti Mabula: Development must be driven by community needs. People have the right to be consulted, to give or withhold consent for projects. The role of civil society is critical⚠️ #PublicParticipation #SDGs #HumanRights

Very timely call on PDBs and MDBs at #FICS2025 and G20 meeting in South Africa these days!
2️⃣ MDBs have a crucial role to play in financing #sustainabledevelopment, but more 💶 for these institutions won't solve the current challenges. Instead, we need changes to their:
➡️ #development paradigm
➡️ ways of working
➡️ internal incentives
➡️ global north-dominated governance structure

Great to discuss community-led dev. at #FICS2025, but making it real requires more: decentralized decision-making, meaningful & systematic engagement with CSOs & communities, integration of local interests & needs, investment in people & social services, Indigenous-led solutions, support for SMEs.

Critical discussion at #FICS2025 underscored the need to asses real impact of public investments. @afd-france.bsky.social & @eib.org emphasized accountability and robust measurement system. ❌Civil society was absent from conversation. Community involvement and social metrics were barely mentioned.
