I don’t know how to tackle these things. I’m trying to learn what I can. But I think identifying these things is important. I do think one good route is getting more medical providers and associations on board like the progress we saw recently at some LC forums. /4

Besides that, Covid as the danger WE know it to be just isn’t lining up with the “lived” reality of many folks (never mind that lab tests would show otherwise). They’ve caught it, seen others catch it and have been “just fine” (the quotes are there for a reason). /3

1 - Get them to understand that Covid is a risk; and 2 - Get them to care about that in relation to themselves and other people. There is a HUGE body of research now and yes media coverage. But in our 24/7 dumpster fire of a news cycle, those stories and that information barely registers. But /2

Maybe she tackled this in another section of the piece, but one key thing highlighted by Bouie’s comment is that people still do not believe Covid poses a risk. And some don’t even believe it’s “that” much of a risk to disabled people either. So I think there’s two prongs here where you have to /1

will read into (incorrectly it seems) as not being willing to mask at all. It sounds like that was an incorrect way of reading into it. I wrote what I wrote to point out that we - not necessarily you, but people - could instead try to have a discussions about when and how to mask.

I did go back to try to see what had been said. I’m not trying to have an argument with you. Just a conversation. If the only point you’re making is that you don’t want to mask at all times, fair enough. But some (such as myself) /1

No you admittedly did not, which is why my additional response was asking for more context about how the subject came up.

When masking is most effective and permits greater access to social and health needs for higher risk people and what are the best ways to get that to happen. Would you be willing to tell me the context of your original post? I couldn’t see it due to the person being blocked.

I realize that. I am challenging the premise that seems to be that masking is either something you do all the time or not at all. Unfortunately, when posts like your OP are made, it gets interpreted as anti-mask (see all the resulting comments). I believe the discussion should be centered around /1

2 - The risk assessment for some is not fear based but instead based on actual lived experiences. Many have been disabled by Covid or seen it happen to others. And some may be “fine” but just don’t want conditions they have worsened by it or to develop new issues.

Two things (and I hope you’ll see and consider this) - 1) Masking is not an either/or scenario. Many of us want to see things like masking in healthcare facilities & masking in more higher risk settings during times of high transmission. That would be much better than the status quo. /1

You should love it! It’s marvelous!

Don't @*&% with public health! Over the weekend, #Trump, #Vought and #RFKJr fired hundreds of staffers at the Centers for Disease Control leaving our premier public health agency in tatters. Get on the phone, write to your members of Congress. This will not stand! actionnetwork.org/letters/writ...

I realize that there’s a certain amount of disingenuousness going on with this author, but that aside, it really seems like a lot of people just cannot comprehend that multiple things can be true at the same time. Lots of black and white, either/or thinking out there.

Yes, yes, YES! One of our favorite shows. I really need them to give us another season. Too much unfinished business and sooo many amazing places they could go with the storylines.

I saw someone say that Gen Z folks are motivated “hustlers” because they work several jobs. And I’m like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! They HAVE to in order to survive!!! Like, please people, get some friends and connections in different age groups 😫

Ahhh got it. So is this a bit of a test portion?

Also, please limit how many times you catch Covid and other respiratory diseases in general. Huge body of research emerging is showing that even if you don’t get Long COVID, it ages the HELL out of your organs and systems and accelerates allll kinds of downstream chronic illnesses.

Oh wow. I didn’t realize they already got it going. I thought it was going to take longer.

I cannot find the words to full express the fury I feel about all the talk about DEI and folks not being qualified only for shit like this to be happening at THIS level here and in soooo many places. I know the hypocrisy is the point but my GOD.
