Let’s say Cadillac’s plan is for Herta to be in F1 in ‘27. Who goes, Valtteri or Checo? Obviously depends on the ‘26 season but if you had to pick today?

Cadillac won't care, they are smart enough to know cars are mercurial in F2. Others in F1 and elsewhere will be negative about it if he doesn't do well. But I think Cadillac will be: learn the tracks, learn the tires, don't try to be a hero. The FP1s in F1 will be more important.

Excellent as always, thank you! Didn't know some of that Portnoy stuff, wow. Do you mind a couple of clarifications? Colton has 35 SL points, not 36. And Checo & Valtteri are on "multi-year" deals, not 2 year deals, which could be 1+1. So one of them could NOT get their option picked up for '26.

Multi-year could mean Valtteri & Checo signed 1+1 deals though. And this would surely be for Cadillac only, not other teams. Towriss said this week: “It's important to us to make sure there's a pathway for an American driver into Formula 1, and we'll be working on that”.

Curious, why? He wouldn't be doing it unless he was pretty much guaranteed an F1 seat in '27, I think? This would at least help with the tires & the tracks. Or, do you think he should just stay put and not go for F1?

There is not a HUGE bidding war. In fact, many outlets declined to bid. So now F1 is trying to determine if it's more important to take the big money from Apple or to have more viewers via ESPN. ESPN has offered much less than Apple. Sigh, wish you weren't so clickbait-y.
