Happy autumn! I’m chuffed that I can wear my rather excessive array of cardigans again!

Currently drowning in brand new legal studies, but managed to schedule October posts, so if you like the look of anything below, make sure to tune into The Writer’s Rights!

The Writer's Rights is a behind-the-scenes pass for writers, artists and creators to gain some insight into the world of intellectual property and how to protect what is theirs - written by a soon-to-...

What i keep circling back to is exactly what the intrinsic value of a book is.

The value of the story itself, the value that a human crafted it... and of course, the knowledge of that. A combo?

That's one of the thoughts that unsettles me most when it comes to AI and literature.

Just published a new article for The Writer’s Rights: Should an AI-generated or AI-assisted book be eligible to win literary awards?

#AI is changing how we write, but how do we recognise #authorship and #creativity when a machine has helped create the work? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Should an AI-generated book ever take home a literary prize?
Or would that be like giving a marathon medal to someone on a motorbike?

The sheer amount of AI-generated content being perpetuated and even promoted online is creating a trust problem between readers and authors.

And I think this trust problem could be solved with just 1 simple declaration: 👇

It Might be Time for Us to Put a Stamp of Authenticity on our Creativity.

Can AI write your book? Sure.
But can you OWN it? That depends on where you live.

US: “No copyright without human authorship.”
UK: “Technically yes (for now).”

Creators throw the word #copyright around in a similar fashion to Trump throwing around his favourite word, tariff. We’re loud, we’re vague and we’re full of confidence when it comes to our #creative copyright. But unlike Trump and his tariffs, copyright has real rules about who you can go after.

IMPORTANT - read the sentence below in an overly dramatic American movie trailer voice:

In a world where disease is transferable and health can be bought, can one man change the very fabric of society and topple the social hierarchy?

(Okay, voice off.)

Should AI-generated books be eligible for literary prizes?

I'm working on an essay about an AI-generated book winning second place in a sci-fi writing competition and would love to hear other people's thoughts on this!

If another author copied your cover, would you confront them? Stay silent? Or lawyer up?

Take a look at this incredibly polite, intrinsically British case study involving Richard Osman and Dawn French.

Ever seen your book cover “borrowed” by another author?

On The Writer’s Rights, I wade into the murky waters of book cover copying.

This one’s for the indies, the trads, and everyone stuck with a suspiciously familiar cover twin.
