Evolution might filter behaviors, but algorithms shape them first. Per studies, on-demand digital entertainment like Netflix, reduced real intimacy long before LLMs showed up. Convenience outcompetes connection. What might look like “choice” & evolution is actually algorithmic design in this case.

Thanks for the article Tim. No doubt the gap is closing quickly. I was surprised that in some areas we lost the top spot in 2023, when things were relatively sane. While I think we’ll retain our lead in tech, that dominance won’t make up for the US falling behind elsewhere…which seems inevitable.

Relying on algorithm driven tools for emotional needs, is mistaking emotional release for emotional fulfillment. Dependence on porn, LLMs or surface level SoMe connections, risks alienating further from genuine & meaningful real life connections - mostly detrimental to long term emotional wellbeing.

Don’t feel bullied - it’s a personal call. The efficacy of these protests beyond headlines is yet to be established. 4 million people marched in pussy hats in 2017 and achieved nothing. Hitting where the 💰is, the legal route & political chicanery to match, are the few things that may have an impact.

Actually pretty decent person. I guess people interpret the merit of something based on direct impact. The more privileged one is, the more they’re insulated from things that affect the larger population. He didn’t like much of what this admin is up to, just wasn’t mad as about it as you or I are.

While I was perplexed how all the other peripheral madness didn’t seem to bother him much either & we agreed to disagree on a lot😅…It gave me an idea about how people like Trump thrive. Funnily everyone agrees that in time he’ll back down on tariffs. What’s the intrinsic price of uncertainty though?

Grabbed lunch with a small pharma CEO…the only person I’ve met cheering tariffs as a fix for trade deficits. Says domestic mfg means “not much impact” on consumers. I’m skeptical…raw material imports still rise. Meanwhile, a client’s solar projects are in existential crisis after Friday’s tariffs.
