Instead, there was a press conference in Berlin. The screenshot of the broadcast shows NFDI Director York Sure-Vetter and is symbolic of many more online events that were to come before the network was finally able to meet in person.

The start of #NFDI was supposed to be celebrated with a big ceremony, but the early phase was heavily affected by the pandemic, so the celebrations were cancelled.

Yesterday, the #NFDI Association celebrated its 5th birthday! 🎂 🎉 We'd like to share 5 photos from 5 years with you this week.

On 12 October, the German federal and state governments jointly founded the association. Just three days later the NFDI office in Karlsruhe was opened.
