Alphinaud's thoughts raced as quickly as his heart. The revelation of all these schemes left him reeling. He cursed himself for his naivete, for once again blindly taking those he called allies at their word without even thinking to question their motives. Would he never learn? He had never fully trusted Emet-Selch. He suspected all along that the ascian had some ulterior motive. The ascian's insistence that he had truly been willing to work with them as allies did little to sway Alphinaud, but a small part of him did wonder whether there was any truth to his words. It mattered not. Emet burned that bridge with the bullet that took down the exarch. The ascian's betrayal was expected, but he never suspected the exarch's true plan, much less that Urianger had been keeping it hidden from them all along. Ignorance really is bliss, he thought ruefully. He glanced at the exarch, collapsed in a pool of his own blood at the ascian's feet, and then at Egg - the Warrior of Light - spluttering and coughing up puddles of condensed light onto the mosaic floor. His heart clenched and he grimaced in frustrated despair. They were almost there. They had finally slayed the final lightwarden. The blight of light was supposed to be over. The star was supposed to be saved. But the glaringly brilliant sky declared otherwise. His fists trembled at his sides. They had been so close. Y’shtola hissed in a breath and drew her staff. “What is it?” Thancred started, preparing his own weapon. “Something is coming. It feels like another lightwarden.” Alphinaud felt everyone tense around him. “Another one? How? I thought we'd slayed them all?” Alisaie exclaimed in disbelief, voicing everyone's thoughts. Alphinaud cursed under his breath. This, too, was likely Emet-Selch's doing. A back up plan in case his horrid pet, Vauthry, failed in dispatching his enemies. He glared at the ascian hatefully. All of this was his fault. But instead of wearing his usual smug smirk as Alphinaud had exp… Cold fingers trailed up his spine. A hard lump formed in his throat. He swallowed it and cast a helpless glance at Egg and the exarch. Neither of them were in any condition to fight. He turned to face where everyone was looking, opening his tome in anticipation. A white haired mystel crested the stairs Alphinaud and the others had climbed to reach the top of the mountain. Its steps were slow and wavering like a lethargic animal. Light dripped from its ruined left eye as it advanced on them undaunted. Everyone took battle stances. Alisaie drew her rapier and shifted anxiously from foot to foot. Ryne crouched with her daggers raised and Thancred stepped in front of protectively, his gunblade held out at eye-level, ready to fire. Urianger lifted his hand, his astrolabe spinning slowly above his open palm. Y'shtola raised her staff and breathed deeply. Alphinaud drew on his aether again and prepared to summon a carbuncle. Beside him, Alphinaud felt his twin tense like a spring. With her focus in hand and rapier pointed at the approaching threat, she began to lunge at it, but stopped herself. She staggered forward, catching her balance, a look of horrified recognition on her face. Alphinaud's gaze shot back to the mystel and he understood why. It wasn't a mystel… it was a miqo'te. “Kitt?” “Seven hells…” Thancred cursed. “How did you…?” Urianger began, disbelief robbing him of words. Alphinaud looked to the exarch's recumbent form. Could he have…? No, he was too far from the tower. But then how was he here? Kitt paid no mind to the million questions thrown at him. He lumbered onward, his startling blue eye fixed unwaveringly on a point ahead of him. Everyone stepped aside to let him pass, wary of the aether that radiated from him like a toxic aura. “You?” Emet sneered incredulously. Then he barked a single harsh laugh and looked down at Egg with what Alphinaud could only assume was disgust. “And to think that all this time I truly thought this little - “ Ki… Emet-Selch and the exarch were gone. The air where they had been rippled like the surface of a pond after a stone was cast in. Kitt stumbled to Egg and fell to his knees. His bow clattered to the ground as a fit of coughs racked his body and light spilled from his lungs, adding to the expanding pool on the mosaic floor. Alphinaud made to go to them but was stopped by Y'shtola's outstretched arm. His twin made the same attempt only to be caught by Urianger. “We have to do something!” Alisaie squirmed against Urianger's hold. “What?” Urianger snapped, “What would you propose we do?” “I- I dont know,” Alisaie stammered, shocked into stillness by Urianger's uncharacteristically harsh tone. She searched Alphinaud's eyes pleadingly, but Urianger was right. There was nothing to be done. He broke his sister's gaze and looked back at the Egg and Kitt helplessly. Any minute now the two of them would turn into sin eaters and the Scions would have to fight them. The outcome of said fight mattered little, they were all doomed regardless. Either the sin eaters would kill them or they themselves would become sin eaters after having slayed their former friends. This was it. Defeated, Alphinaud watched the pair, waiting for the inevitable transformation to occur. He didn't have the heart to ready his tome. Then, Kitt shakily reached for Egg and took her hands into his. He panted for a moment, then took a long ragged breath and held it. The light around him began to intensify, growing brighter and brighter until Alphinaud had to squint. “What is he doing?” Alphinaud whispered. “Absorbing her aether,” Y’shtola replied grimly. Instantly, Egg's breathing seemed to ease. Colour returned to her cheeks and she looked up at Kitt. She appeared shocked to see him as though she only just noticed his presence. Her eyes darted all over him in a panic, taking in his bleached hair, ruined eyes, and light soiled shirt. She released one of his hands and reached up to brush his cheek w…

Part 2!
Kitt felt Arenvald's arm grow lax around him as the young adventurer succumbed to the vision. His thoughts felt hazy and fleeting, and his grasp on his own aether was slippery. He could only guess at which of his memories he had just inflicted on the poor boy. Clumsily, Kitt scrambled out of the armoured grasp before the young adventurer fell to the gravel road with a metallic clang. His head swam as he shakily got to his feet. He tried to shake the fog from his mind, but the motion aggravated his nausea. His chest heaved with ragged breaths from the exertion. His lungs burned and he coughed. More of the luminous liquid splattered to the ground. Aether, he suspected. Tainted aether. He felt at once like he had been submerged in and made to ingest burning coals and frigid water. The conflicting temperatures raged in his body and radiated nauseatingly from his chest, to his limbs, and finally to his fingers and toes, before returning and clashing with the outgoing waves. It hurt, but in a floating, disconnected sort of way. He wondered what state Egg must be in if he was suffering this much. He should have gone with her. She had urged him to stay behind when the voice called to them. Kitt had found it difficult to argue. He was injured from their encounter with Zenos, and his aether was dangerously depleted from felling the beast. He needed rest. And the voice only called to one of them. Kitt had heard it too, as had all the Scions close to her, but he also somehow knew that the one it seeked was she and not he. There was no point in him going along as well, weakened as he was. So he stayed behind to recover, as well as lend his aid to Tataru and the remaining Scions. The organization was woefully lacking in manpower now that all of their leaders - as well as their ace - were indisposed. But in the weeks that followed he came to regret not going with her. He had only just begun to recover when he felt the flood of aether cascaded from Egg's end of their aeth… All that mattered was fulfilling his promises to Egg: rest, help the Scions, and await her return. And so that's what he did. Now, however, he felt a sense of urgency. Not for his own sake, though. Strangely, he wasn't as terribly concerned about his own survival as he had been in the past. Whatever happened to him happened, and that was alright. It was Egg he worried about. If he didn't do something, then she would die along with him. He couldn't let that happen. He dragged her into this mess - this “hero” business - and he would see her through it. He owed the little au ra that much. Another wave of pain tore through him, his left eye searing in its socket as the aether threatened to consume him. He screamed, but no sound came. Then the pain subsided as quickly as it came. He broke into another fit of coughs. More light splattered to the ground. Time was running out. Kitt hobbled off the road, leaving Arenvald groaning in the gravel with both of their packs. Keeping the distant glittering tower straight ahead, he picked his way across the wasteland as quickly as his numb legs could carry him. More than once he tripped on stones or dry shrubs that emerged from the bright blankness which obscured everything to his left. Before long, he found himself wheezing amid the rubble at the base of the Crystal Tower. His legs shook violently as he struggled to regain his breath and he fell to his knees. He'd made it to the tower. But now what? In his mad dash, he hadn't once thought of what he was supposed to do once he got here, and a quick glance over his surroundings offered no clues. He dredged through the murky slurry of his thoughts to no avail. Why had he come here of all places? Surely he hadn't expected Egg to be here. No, that wasn't right. She wasn't at the tower… but he can feel their connection strongest here. He looked up and down the crystalline spire, wearily assessing the ancient thing, but it too refused to aid him. At a complete loss, he began to hum. The tune was comforting. He often used it to help clear his head and bring forth visions when he was in need of guidance. Unfortunately, the visions that came now were indecipherable - dark figures set against a burning sun, their fiery edges frayed by the radiance. This was likely due to the light corrupted aether, he thought. Regardless, he continued to hum, the lyrics silently repeating in his head, until his haggard mind stuck to a single line. Look to those who walk before to guide those who walk after… He might as well try. Wielding his aether to the best of his ability, he grabbed hold of the line that connects his soul to Egg's. Shakily, he got to his feet and followed it to its abrupt end. But that couldn't be right. He could feel her at the other end. Yet she was not here, at the apparent end, therefore, it must continue somewhere. He pondered for a moment, then recalled the beckoning voice. Let expanse contract, eon become instant… throw wide the gates that we may pass! The world melted into starspeckled darkness ahead of him. He forged onward, determinedly following the line that stretched on into the vastness.

Arenvald followed along silently behind Kitt. He had promised Tataru that he'd look after the bard and not let him overexert himself during their duties, but it didn't take long after they set off to hunt the primal for Arenvald to consider if perhaps he should have supported her in protest of letting Kitt come along at all. The bard scarcely spoke a word during the entirety of the trip, as though even the simplest conversation would sap what energy he had left. Arenvald thought Kitt had been rather quiet during their time together in Ala Mhigo. Now he understood that he had merely been reserved. The silence left him uneasy. He wanted to talk. Ask how he was feeling. If he was okay. For how long had he had the Echo. Why did he hide it from the Scions… Somehow he doubted the bard would be more forthcoming with answers now than all the times Tataru and the others had asked these very questions. Arenvald glanced wistfully at the distant shimmering spires of the Crystal Tower. The past couple months - since the first of the Scions became bedridden - had grown within him an oppressive sense of helplessness. Every attempt at waking their comatose friends amounted to nought, and with every passing day their aether grew thinner and thinner. All he and his remaining comrades could do now was carry out their duties as best as they could in the absence of their leaders, and wait for the Warrior of Light to save the day once again. He wished they'd just wake up already. A small gasp ahead of him tore him from his thoughts. The bard was stopped. Trembling breaths shook his hunched shoulders. Worry climbed up Arenvald's throat. “Kitt?” The tip of the bard's tail twitched slightly at the sound of his name. Something was definitely wrong. Arenvald hurriedly stepped around him, crouching slightly to come face to face with the shorter man. His hand hovered uncertainly over the bard's shoulder. Kitt paid Arenvald no mind. A bead of sweat trickled down his cheek. His face was set in tense concentration with a hand pressed firmly over his left eye. The edges of his fingers glowed faintly as though he held a small flame in his eye socket. “Kitt, what's wrong?” Arenvald asked again. He cautiously placed his hand on Kitt's shoulder, but drew it back immediately as the bard began to curl in on himself, groaning in pain. The glow behind his hand intensified, his low pained groan mounting into a howl of agony as a bright beams of light pierced through his clenched fingers. Arenvald watched in horror as the howl tore mercilessly from the bard's throat for what seemed an eternity, and the glow spread to his scars, illuminating them like molten lava. Then the light receded, returning once again to a faint glow. The howl stopped and Kitt slumped forwards, coughing breathlessly. Arenvald reflexively caught him by the shoulders. Unsure of what to do, he merely held Kitt in place, shuddering with each of the bard's hacking coughs. He stared down at Kitt's bowed head. Colour drained from his hair in patches, stark white against light brown. Arenvald didn't know what to say, what to do. He looked around helplessly as though an answer would drift down from the sky. Then he heard a particularly violent cough, followed by a splatter. His eyes whipped to the ground in alarm. A puddle of shimmering light painted the ground between their feet where he had expected to see the dark red of blood. The stuff dripped from Kitt's mouth and splattered Arenvald's boots with little specks of brilliant white. Arenvald's mind reeled. This was so far beyond his comprehension. Fear and panic clawed at his lungs, threatening to steal his own breath. He needed to do something. But what? He didn't even know what was happening! He looked over his shoulder. The sky was beginning to dim. Looking down the crystal-lined road, he estimated that Revenant's Toll was only an hour or two away. If he hurried, he could have them both back at the Rising Stones before nightfall. He took a deep breath and swallowed down his fear. He slipped his pack off his shoulders, keeping a stabilizing hand on Kitt's trembling shoulder. The bard was breathing heavily now - but steadily - no longer assaulted by fits of coughing. His hair was slightly damp and streaked with white, and he still clutched his eye though the glow had completely subsided. Relieved of his pack, Arenvald placed his free hand behind Kitt's knees and scooped him off his feet. The movement seemed to bring Kitt back to his senses. His hand fell away from his face and his eyes flew open. His gray eyes had become a searing aetheric blue, and his left pupil a well of light. A disturbing madness, like a trapped animal, danced in his normally calm eyes. Arenvald once again suppressed a fresh wave of fear.

Egg doesnt think much of her tail, it just exists much like her arms and legs do, and she cares for it as well as she does the rest of her self. She's not opposed to people touching it but depending on the situation might think it's weird.

Whenever I see people talking about voices for their OCs I go on a brief search for egg and Kitt voices but I've yet to find any that feel right in English. I know what they sound like in my head and feel like I've heard them somewhere but can't find the source 😭
