Quite aside from everything else... guys, 10th grade history is not the end all and be all of all history. You can keep learning history after you're 16!

Historians are not hiding history from people! On the contrary, it's really hard to get us to shut up about stuff!

Hm. I'm a pretty Skeptical guy overall (blame too much James Randi and Mike Dash), so I'm basically in the "this is the stuff that really happened" zone with maybe a toe hold in the "We Have Questions" area.

...The Epstein stuff definitely has a weird vibe to it, for instance.

I think this depends a *lot* on the kind of order.

Direct order to stand around and stare at a street corner all day? Probably not, even if the legality may be sketchy.

Direct order to fire on a crowd of civilians, with a grandma, a priest, and a kid in the front row? Different story entirely.

Thinking back, the thing which I always loved about Deus Ex, and likewise Morrowind and Planescape: Torment, was that these were games that did not talk down to you. They fully expected you to read a ton of text in order to grasp some fairly complex philosophy, conspiracy lore, and politics.

Sci-fi writers use numbers kinda like ancient Roman historians used numbers. There weren't *really* ten thousand ships at the Battle of Salamis, it's just a synecdoche for "a lot".

That sounds loosely correct. I remember reading some time ago that raising a kid from birth to age 18 costs parents on the order of $185k - probably higher now.

And that's just the pure monetary cost.

It's just so... pointless. There's no greater purpose, no mission, no sacrifice, no reason for this.

Trump and Musk and Rubio chose to kill children because of stupidity or base bigotry or petty resentment, and that's it. Mohammed Taher's son died because we laughed at Trump's hotels.
