Im less bothered by the inclusion of Rie, her introduction was very subtle and I think we'll handled. It could've been effective foreshadowing if we weren't also given Tanaka. He's the brewing undercurrent beneath the character drama, a tense presence that suggests that things might get worse.

I dont think that Tanaka and Rie needed to be introduced this early. Theres a reason why they arent seen until later. Volume 1 naturally creates tension through the question of whether Yoshiki can truly overlook the reality that Hikaru isnt Hikaru— and suggest to us that he might be dangerous.

I watched this with a group, a majority of whom hadn't read the series, and they noted being confused several times. It feels insane to me that youd try to create intrigue in a character drama by flashing people with future story elements AMIDST INTRODUCING THE MAIN CHARACTER DYNAMIC.

The first episode follows the story and style of Chapters 1 & 2 pretty linearly. I never suspected they'd adapt the Manga verbatim, but for some reason the writers decided to introduce us to characters who arent even seen until vol. 2~3 in a montage between character building scenes.
