Today is #LetFreedomReadDay, as great a day as any to read a banned book 📚

When hundreds of Department of Education employees are suddenly terminated, students bear the brunt of the consequences.

Special education oversight. Grants to high-need schools. Protection of civil rights.

Gone.

This administration is destroying our education system from the inside out.

The indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James demonstrates that Donald Trump continues to weaponize the government to threaten and prosecute his political opponents.

We cannot allow this to be who we are as a nation. https://bsky.app/profile/newyorkstateag.bsky.social/post/3m2s4fxt4as2f

This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.

I am not fearful — I am fearless.

We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights..

90% of parents are against banning books.

All children deserve access to excellent, diverse stories.

Today is #LatinaEqualPay Day. On average, Latina women earn only 54 cents for every $1 earned by a white man.

It is past time to end racial discrimination and occupational segregation in this country.

Every day that this government shutdown continues, people suffer.

Our lawmakers must end the shutdown by reaching a deal that is fair and just—without endangering the health care of working families.

The start of a new month always brings new #ReadAcrossAmerica recommendations—and October's selections are all about resilience. Pick one to read with the early, middle, and young adult readers in your life 📖

Educators on military bases working without pay. Critical food assistance for hungry students jeopardized. Health care hanging in the balance.

Students and families are hurting because Republicans in the White House and Congress have forced a government shutdown.

Tell them to end it, NOW ⬇️
Respect Students and Working Families. End the Shutdown. | NEA
Congress must pass a bipartisan agreement that reopens the federal government and provides continuity for crucial services.

October is #HigherEdMonth!

Every day, educators at colleges and universities broaden the horizons and shape the lives of students—their work is invaluable.

All Americans deserve a Congress that works for them. We deserve leaders who are focused on lifting up our communities, working to address the issues our nation faces, and ensuring every public-school student has the opportunity to thrive. Enough is enough.

As National School Attendance Awareness Month comes to an end, I know the challenge of keeping attendance up is not over for our educators—it continues all year.

And we know that students can only be present at school where they feel safe, welcome, and protected.

When lawmakers don't fully fund our schools, the burden gets put on educators.

And it's just wrong. https://bsky.app/profile/neatoday.bsky.social/post/3lzoia2qyfm2f

Educators spend $500–$900 of their own money on supplies each year. With inflation and tariffs driving prices higher, many are paying even more this back-to-school season.

"Lawmakers know what they have to do to close the gaps," says @neapresident.bsky.social
Rising Cost of School Supplies Increases Burden on Teachers | NEA

We have lost a dedicated leader in Al Llorens.

Even before his presidency at @ieanea.bsky.social, Al dedicated his life to improving students' lives and strengthening public education. His leadership was rooted in compassion, vision, and an unwavering belief in the power of education to transform.

It is past time for Republicans, who control both Congress and the White House, to sit down with Democrats and work out a common-sense agreement.

One that avoids a government shutdown AND protects health care for millions of working people and families.

Honored to join the @blackinfonet.bsky.social today to talk about all the crises facing education in this moment—SNAP cuts, educator intimidation, and more.

Thank you, Vanessa Tyler, for this essential conversation in this critical moment.

We grieve with the families of those lost in the tragic shooting at the Dallas ICE facility. Violence has no place in our schools, communities, or our democracy.

Let's reject the vitriol that divides us and build together a country where we can all live free from violence and fear.

In 2024, teachers earned 73 cents for every dollar their similarly educated peers made, on average. A record low.

In 1996, the gap was much smaller: 94 cents to the dollar. We can fix this—by investing in public education.

The full report from @epi.org lays bare the challenge—and the solution.
The teacher pay penalty reached a record high in 2024: Three decades of leaving public school teachers behind
Over the past three decades, stagnant weekly wages of public school teachers have fallen further and further behind those of college graduates who chose other careers, resulting in an ever increasing ...

We will continue to fight for a country that provides high-quality public education, exemplary health care, living wages, and basic dignity and respect for everyone—no exceptions.

Neither political violence nor aggression and intimidation have a place in our country or democracy.

When threats and attacks target educators, they don't just endanger individuals—they undermine the foundation of public education and democracy.

Using mob tactics against educators is unacceptable.
