🎓These changes will cause disruptions to vital programs that directly help underserved AANHPI students stay in school, & receive targeted support services. Families are already struggling to make ends meet - rolling back these programs will make it even harder for AAPI students to succeed.

🚌This week, without Congressional action, the Department of Education moved major programs to other agencies-part of the Administration’s ongoing efforts to dismantle the DOE. This is a clear message that the federal government will no longer ensure every student has an equal opportunity to thrive.

As the House of Representatives heads to vote on a deal to reopen government, we are sharing this primer on SNAP-which remains in limbo for millions of families across the country. This is one of the most important federal programs designed to fight hunger & poverty; 2 million+ AANHPIs rely on SNAP.

🏥Unfortunately, this bill does NOTHING to fix healthcare subsidies for the millions of Americans who rely on the Affordable Care Act marketplace for healthcare - including 1.5 million AAPIs.

‼️Legislative UPDATE‼️: The Senate is set to vote on a budget deal TONIGHT that would reopen the government and fund the Department of Agriculture, including SNAP (aka welfare benefits); the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Legislative Branch.

The National Council of Asian Pacific Americans issued the following statement as the Senate prepares to pass a bill to reopen the government through Jan 30th, fully funding USDA, Dept of Veterans Affairs, and the legislative branch. See link in bio or view here: www.ncapaonline.org/senate_bill_...

🏛️👩🏽‍🍼We NEED Republicans and Democrats to work together and pass a budget that reopens the government, protects healthcare, and prevents families from facing hunger NOW.

🕷️The nightmare didn’t end on Halloween.
Open Enrollment started Nov 1, so without renewal of healthcare subsidies, millions face higher premiums.
🍎November SNAP $$ were not released, leaving 1.2 million+ AAPIs with no groceries, and many with no other income. With rising costs, this hurts even more.

☎️We call on Republicans and Democrats to work together to pass a budget that reopens the government and protects healthcare so that our working class families can thrive.

🩺In July, Republicans in Congress took #healthcare away from 4.5 million #AAPIs when they gut Medicaid to fund tax cuts for corporations & billionaires.
🔮 This fall, 1.5 million AAPIs will see premiums skyrocket because Congressional Republicans refuse to include tax subsidies in a budget deal.

🎃Happy Halloween!

We’re using #Halloween to break down the #shutdown so that folks understand- there’s no treat!

🍬This year don’t get tricked! This shutdown is about YOUR healthcare.

🏛️In 1987, President Ronald Reagan first proclaimed October 28 as #nationalimmigrantsday to celebrate and honor how immigrants have contributed to our nation.

📈This year, with a rise in anti-immigrant xenophobia, we want to share findings from our 2025 #AAPI Policy Priorities Survey.

Across college campuses and communities nationwide, the Trump Administration is attempting to silence journalists and students who are exercising their freedom of speech. When they speak up, they face retaliation - just like Jacob.
October 27, 2025 at 11:24 PM
This hits particularly close to home within the NCAPA family, and we want everyone to be aware.

Yaa’kub Ira Vijandre, or Jacob, came to the United States with his father at age 14 and later gained legal residency through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
