Wondering if you can outsource your data viz work to ChatGPT? 📊

I tested out a few different generative AI tools, giving them prompts to visualise two different data sets. If you're interested in the results, you can read them here: nrennie.rbind.io/blog/gen-ai-...

Generative AI for Data Visualisation – Nicola Rennie
Can generative AI create good data visualisations? This blog post compares the performance of ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini when presented with a generic request to visualise a dataset.

Writing my second paper has me face-to-face with all my writing flaws.

This great piece by Michael Black reminded me that scientific writing is really about storytelling: medium.com/@black_51980...

Be the hero of your story — and make sure there’s a golden nugget to share. Really good stuff.

Oh nooo, ok fair enough..this is really sad 🥺 And having all theses preregistered just reminds me how different psych majors are from comm majors 😳

I agree. I do wonder, though, how the benefit of producing more informative results relates to the benefit of allowing students to go through the data collection process themselves—so that they gain that experience, at least at the BA level where the stakes may not be as „high“

Life satisfaction mostly declines with age. Previous findings (esp. the famous U-shaped age-SWB trajectory) were artifacts of misspecified models. doi.org/10.1093/esr/...

“[S]tatistical complexity risks becoming decorative—used to signal analytical sophistication rather than deepen theoretical insight”

Several good points by Winston Peng in his inaugural piece as HCR editor.

Thanks so much! I remember reading this excellent paper when I was writing my masters thesis. But back then I wasn’t really aware of formative measurement models! Excited for the re-read! 😊

Smart folks of bsky 🧠: If you’ve used formative constructs, what were the biggest validity challenges & how did reviewers react? Any opposing takes on formative measurement? Also after good methods papers 🔍 Read some Diamantopoulos + Coltman—what else? Ty!!

After a good night’s rest here in Duisburg, I’ll soon be heading to the MediaPsych Doctoral Workshop, which takes place just before #mepsy25 kicks off. I’m so excited!
