She knows she’s supposed to be calm and collected, especially in front of others, but Zora feels sick. As she paces nervously across the room, the guard quietly watches her. Deep down, she knows Lumiens’ presence was just her dad being overprotective, but still feels like this is too much to handle.

The news is like a punch to her stomach. Besides being the kingdom’s most trusted soldier, Lumiens is the king’s number one advisor and the closest thing Zora has to an uncle. He wasn’t going just to ensure her safety, but also to act as a mentor for political matters if necessary.

Almost two hours later, everything is packed and Zora is in her travel clothes, ready to leave. Alone in the big bedroom for too long, anxiety catches up to Zora and she’s too lost in nervous thoughts to notice the two soft knocks at the door before a young guard slides into the room.

And to this day, somehow, he always knows the right thing to say and exactly what she needs to hear, even when Zora herself isn’t so sure of what that may be. And all she needs in that moment is his gentle reassurance and the quiet yet solid pride he offers.

Now that she is older and has the knowledge of how much he does for their people, Zora does her best to stay out of trouble and not be a burden. She is old enough to deal with things and her dad’s time is best spent with Mimnea, who needs him more than she does. But that doesn’t stop Thraux.

Mimnea quickly jumps to her feet, running to her father’s arms. Ruling definitively isn’t an easy task, but the king manages to squeeze just enough time for his daughters, especially the youngest one. He holds her close, soaking up all the small moments he can.
