If you are a landlord, airbnb owner RE agent or anyone profiting from 'the housing market' and are not waking up each day consumed with deadly shame, pleading with your chosen deity to give you a little more time to redeem yourself before you are shunted to Hell, you are not fit for human company.

Companion animals can become entwined in your life in ways you don't notice. It's not just the usuals - affection, intelligence - but their intense unhuman aliveness, and when you lose them, you can feel bereft in odd ways that don't fit with other experiences of loss.

We have a winner in the 'unhinged literary opinion' thread doing the rounds, one I completely endorse, and which could profitably generate a new field of literary studies.

The Wind in the Willows is simply a vehicle to promote the worship of the god Pan
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
Well, yes. Only annoying cos they're right. 😏
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
Philip K Dick is grossly overrated and In Search of Lost Time is too short.

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

The autistic part might be not knowing if it's good or bad. The 'insight' part is feeling like you need a break to do other interesting things. Doesn't have the feeling of burnout or depression (former counsellor for autistic adults speaking).

Alternative reading, kids are very smart.
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
Shame, as that means you'll have to write your own.

Looking good to knock em dead for the ballroom or the house party.
Enjoy your steroid-free weekend.

So, dunno. Have a beer, try again?

Fellow citizens, and those occasionally watching, meet the Australian media class. So utterly unaware of the politics of 'reporting', so cocooned in their privileged bubble, so unalterably hilariously smug they may as well be Tories.
lenoret.bsky.social
Reporting on a party is not the same thing as supporting them...
franceswilmore.bsky.social
@lenoret.bsky.social why when I open my Guardian App is an article about the Liberal party the first article - again? They are irrelevant over kaput not newsworthy - please stop supporting them #auspol

It's the palace of colonial power. A First Nations person wishing it would burn down seems perfectly reasonable to me.
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
Who *hasn't* wanted to burn down Parliament House?
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
Miller-Heidke for sure. Or Delta.

You can add a sentence beginning "Children will suffer as a result of..." to nearly every ALP policy.
tom.sulston.net
It's galling to see the Albo government paint the U16 social media ban as a great success when there are expert organisations working with vulnerable children queuing up to demonstrate how it will make young people less safe online.

Children will suffer as a result of the social media ban.

Turnip Shepherd has me nailed.

Good little rally for Palestine in Anaiwan country this arvo. Welcome to Country by local elder Uncle Steve, drawing direct line between colonisation of Palestine & so-called Australia.
Rally for Palestine in Anaiwan country.

This is the Guardian's Australian headline today, a desperate attempt to maintain the neoliberal status quo & rehabilitate a right-wing party that is long past its use-by date.
Guardian headline obsessing over the future of the Coalition.

Proust is a very funny writer. Comedic scenes & characters are his speciality.
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
Spot on. The big investigative scoops the Guardian do and its occasional opinion pieces by left-wing writers are necessary to launder its reputation as a fierce defender of democratic values. But its 'mundane ideological work', (transphobia, spruiking the right & 'populism') is its real project.
aurelmondon.bsky.social
If we want to understand the role played by mainstream media like the NYT, Guardian, Le Monde etc, we must look past the truly excellent investigative pieces they put out at times and think of the more mundane ongoing ideological work they do on a day to day basis with headlines like this

Should the New York Times be sold to Pennysaver and its editors sent to work in Amazon warehouses? It depends on who you ask.
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
If I had an ocean of contempt to drown Penny Wong in, it wouldn't be nearly enough.

Genocidal war criminal nominates his weapons dealer for the Nobel Peace Prize and our Foreign Minister fawns over it.

Embarrassing.
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
Yeah I'm shocked. I mean, I thought 'rage against the machine' meant being mad at your Victa. Really confused now.
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
Absolutely 100%. Arts orgs think politicians will listen to an 'art makes money' argument & suddenly be enlightened by it.
mycommunistcat.bsky.social
It's so weird. I mean, I understand why some people make the 'investing in arts makes money' arguments, but it's depressing to hear them. The whole experience of creating & imagining is outside the mercantile sphere & disrupts it because it has absolutely nothing in common with it.
