Genuinely struggle to think of a modern artist who was as universally revered by musicians from all walks of life as D'Angelo. He released exactly one studio album per decade from the 90s to the 2010s and each one was zeitgeist-defining. Seems an impossible feat in today's model of art consumption

Neat passage on D'Angelo from Questlove in his memoir. He goes on to talk about how hearing Brown Sugar kindled in him an obsession with meeting/working with D'Angelo - would finally collaborate for the first time in 1996 on The Roots' Illadelph Halflife (and ofc the Voodoo sessions much later)
