It’s Sumo Saturday! I’ve been watching the London Grand Sumo Tournament. It’s been entertaining, but tbh tourist rikishi has completely enchanted me. They’re the embodiment of pure joy. I had such a hard time choosing subjects for sketching. Daieisho and Mitakeumi shopping was so adorable!😊

One of the many birdtober sketches I have done in the last week was this amazing Javan green magpie (Ref: on Wikimedia commons).I had to double-check that it wasn’t CG because it looks like a muppet! I took the longest to make the pencil sketch then add ink, watercolor, and gel pen. #birdsketch

Bluesky as a twitter alternative makes sense, but I’m seeing the rage-y echo chamber effect again in my work threads. Very little science content, mostly political fury. As an Instagram alternative, I’m less convinced, although I do prefer the lack of ads every three posts.

I don’t think I’ll be able to do all the prompts for this week for #penandinkchallengeoct2025 but this one is black cat with glowing eyes. When I do laundry I need to check the basket because sometimes there is someone inhabiting it. This is what I see.

For Day 2 of #birdtober “Venezuelan Troupial”.

Reference from the eBird website. I had a limited paint palette & I forgot to store my pen upright. Luckily I had some gouache so I was able to somewhat fix the eye. I now know the Lamy studio is not safe for plane travel unless upright.

Forgot to share these rough #sumosketches of the Tobizaru-Asakoryu bout.The last day of the Aki basho was Sunday September 28th. No major upsets and some disappointments, but also lots of e awesome bouts throughout the tournament including the Yokozuna-Yokozuna playoff!
