With 916 apartments – half which are for middle-income Rotterdammers – The Sax meets the demand for affordable housing in the city centre. 🌇 The project also includes shared living rooms, a communal roof terrace, and a focus on sustainable mobility with a lively plinth.
🎷 The Sax’s distinctive saxophone-inspired silhouette captures the jazzy character of Rotterdam, with light on the façade creating a constantly changing effect, enhanced by bay windows and undulating balconies.
The construction of The Sax has started – a jazzy high-rise project bringing 916 apartments to the centre of Rotterdam! 🏗️ The project features two towers of 180m (55 storeys) and 82m (26 storeys), bridged by a golden beam and a 100m-high roof terrace.

🌿🤝 Our building designs prioritise sustainability with lightweight, bio-based structures. The campus will be an attractive workplace and destination for visitors to explore world-changing technologies first hand.
🌐 Our masterplan has distinctive circular shape with two off-centre axes – housing labs, offices, and a public communication centre.
The global home of human AI! 🤖👩‍💻 Yesterday, we celebrated the start of construction of the IPAI CAMPUS in Heilbronn, Germany, with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The 30-hectare campus will be a hub for 5,000+ people focused on innovative, responsible AI development.

This study presents new solutions addressing societal views on sharing, community, flexibility, while tackling climate change, and affordability. It combines research and options for co-living projects, offering designers possibilities for both new developments and transformations.
🏡 The housing sector is in desperate need of innovative thinking... so we made our design study into co-living freely available to all!

Created by MVRDV NEXT, we make CarbonSpace publicly available and invite everyone in the building industry to use, test, and improve the tool. We have partnered up with the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat that will use CarbonSpace as part of their global Sustainability Initiative 2026.
We're launching CarbonSpace – a free, web-based tool that helps architects reduce carbon from the first sketch in the design process! 🌍✏️ We wanted to make a simple, transparent tool that does not require detailed models, precise data, and complex databases – as is often the case. 📊
Admission is free and the exhibition is open every day between 10:00 and 17:30. Find more info here! www.mvrdv.com/news/4757/co...
Also explore 36 booklets with low-carbon project stories and "carbon cases" using our new CarbonSpace software. Check out models and circular project samples, showing the benefits of transformation over new construction. 🔄
Paris without carbon! 🌍 Our Carbon Confessions exhibition is now on display at Atelier Néerlandais until Sept 27. 🏗️♻️ It gives a behind-the-scenes look at sustainable design, showcasing our journey toward carbon reduction, with a 21-chapter story on hanging paper banners.
🌍 With the construction industry being responsible for 40% of global CO2 emissions, this exhibition shows the ideas, ideals, everyday actions – but also the missteps and missed opportunities – of our quest for carbon reductions. Read more here! www.mvrdv.com/news/4727/mv...
We’re making Paris Paris-proof! Our exhibition Carbon Confessions is travelling to the French capital to be on display at the Atelier Néerlandais, from September 19 to 27! 🏗️♻️
Nature Rocks demonstrates how coastal areas can be upgraded in a respectful and sustainable way. 🌍 Read more on the project here! mvrdv.com/news/4734/na...
🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️ The old road becomes an accessible route for pedestrians, cyclists, and shuttle buses. The design promotes local biodiversity, letting greenery and small animals pass through cracks in the rock-inspired paving, while the buildings will gradually be covered in moss and plants.
New construction – including a visitor centre and three lookout points – stays within the existing built footprint, avoiding untouched ground. The rocky shapes of the new buildings make them blend into the landscape.
Nature Rocks! 🏞️🌊 We've designed a transformation of Jialeshui, a scenic nature spot in southern Taiwan known for its unique rock formations. This design strengthens tourism infrastructure, while respecting the local nature.
♻️ This transformation shows a global trend of repurposing industrial sites into lively city districts – reflecting our belief that creative reuse can bring important value to urban communities. Read more on the project here! mvrdv.com/news/4730/co...
The GATE M Dream Center in Shanghai offers a mix of shopping, dining, skateboarding, exhibitions, and live events. It includes BLOOMARKET – a food market and fine dining venue – a rock-climbing centre in repurposed silos, and modern buildings with green roofs and outdoor terraces.
