This gave me the chance to write Aster & Huey interacting, something I had never done. So I made them bake. 🥧

Huey met his eyes. Between his eyebrows was a slight crease in his strange pale skin. He didn’t understand. Despite his age, Huey had a child’s innocence about some aspects of life, and he took things at face value. Aster spotted a cookbook an arm’s length away and glanced at the open page. Sure enough, an illustration depicted a tart exactly like the ones Huey had assembled.

“It doesn’t have to be done exactly like the cookbook shows,” Aster said gently. He put one of the fruit pieces in his mouth. The flavor was spicy-sweet. “See? The shape doesn’t affect the flavor. Flavor is the real reason humans like food so much. Did you try the peaches?”
