I'm sure Smith would've loved having Trent Bray come with him and maybe we would be in the same spot...but did Smith actually make a fatal mistake in selecting Rossi who then picked most of the Defensive Staff? Chad Wilt, Andrew Bindelglass Chris Gordon, these are all Rossi guys and have failed
I don't understand how the Defense can look this bad in the portal era. The only thing I can think of is we blew all of our portal money on WR/OL and the offensive side of the ball and shopped at the bargain bin on Defense. That and recruiting all falls on the defensive staff and ultimately Smith.
Is Curt Cignetti and staff just the ultimate outlier? He brought both of his coordinators from JMU and they have done well and identified people out of the portal. I know Rossi wasn't a Jonathan Smith guy but Lindgren was and both coordinators Mel had were bad. Is it too much for MSU to ask for 1?
Is there a more Californian looking dude than Jerry Neuheisel? Also you can just tell from the way he coaches that he loves and lives the game of football. Are we sure Jonathan Smith actually even likes football?
I was at the Tigers game on Wednesday and I know the start time was up in the air but I was still shocked at how few fans there were (I know Tuesdays game sucked). I am out and about a lot and have noticed bars etc. pretty dead besides the Lions. Are we all feeling the pinch right now?
Is Chad Wilt the new Ross Els? Guy is in charge of special teams and the rush ends. I know he was brought here because of his experience with Rossi but at the end of the day this is Jonathan Smith's program. A bigger assistant salary pool doesn't mean we are getting better coaches.
What is the bigger grift...politician or assistant football coach? In both cases you can get new higher paying jobs just for knowing a specific person and not based on actual merit. You can also just completely bungle your job with no major consequences. Maybe they are on equal footing?
I saw somebody online refer to the US Ryder Cup fans as "boorish" and I can't think of a better word to describe them. What a terrible weekend on and off the course.
@spartanpod.bsky.social Sorry I realize that I didn't really get around to the question part...shouldn't we in theory be able to poach at least quasi Big Ten talent with the promise of immediate PT on the Defensive Line? I still find it strange nobody from Minnesota really followed Rossi here
I was watching both the Illinois and PSU games and it sounded like they both had portal additions from other B1G schools making plays on defense. I know "winning" helps their cases but hopefully we can poach from UCLA and other bigger name programs with the promise of immediate playing time on D
Has Liverpool already won the league? I like what I have seen from Arsenal this season and they finally have the depth, but I feel like the season is already slipping away. Also, sorry for the soccer question Jason but it is the bye week and I need something to distract me from the Tigers.
I enjoy a Fall tailgate but 3 September Home games is the way to go. MSU hit the perfect schedule this year with the Friday night, Saturday night, and then Saturday 3:30 game schedule. I'm in favor of scheduling home and homes with power 5 schools so we can continue to get that every other year.
Since this is basically a bye week for Football here is a bball question. Why does it seem like Jaxon Kohler is getting overlooked in a lot of MSU previews? Guy has only gotten better every year and Senior Big guys who can do everything don't just grow on trees. I think he has a monster year.
I did my best Jason impression on Saturday and said out loud "Munn Field tailgating is back." Thank you J Batt. Baked Take: For the love of god we need to find some upgraded portal defenders next year. The staff has proven they can identify offensive players...now find the Omari Kelly of defense
How big of a factor do you see the crowd being on Saturday night? I know the players have told you this game had been circled but I think fans are looking for revenge as well.
I got Tullis, Marsh and Chiles anytime TD parlay at +601. Tau-Tolliver has the best TD odds but I feel like that move is the books trying to bait people. Thoughts?
For once I'm not on Jason's side. Harbaugh is way weirder than Graham. Shirtless Harbaugh balling with High Schoolers, Sleep-overs with recruits, wearing cleats in a recruit's house. Honorable mention calling chicken a "nervous bird" filling a wine glass with whole milk and giving the Pope a helmet.
