The government will take over full responsibility for special educational needs spending from local councils, it was revealed at the budget, prompting warnings that the Department for Education could be facing a £20bn timebomb in two years.
The Office for Budget Responsibility said the annual costs of special educational needs and disability (Send) spending in England would reach £6bn a year by 2028, increasing the urgency of a potentially decisive overhaul of Send provision in a schools white paper expected early next year. How predictable and misleading. I thought the series was great for many reasons, from featuring Indigenous peoples in their own words, multiple languages, and its way of connecting huge political change to individual stories. Radically different, and better, than any previous BBC series on empire.

Almost forgot I wrote this piece with the tail end of my bubble plots. But if you want to know how many Reform voters think white people face worse discrimination than ethnic minorities, I’ve got the goods.
Finally got round to giving @benansell.bsky.social's latest. It's also one of his very best - especially if you want to understand the extent to which Reform voters (often talked of as 'the people' and, apparently therefore, representative of all UK voters) are real outliers, culturally-speaking.
