Our mission is to assist in illuminating the past, present, and future of the Mount Shasta region. To fulfill this mission, the museum produces exhibits on the history and science related to Mount Shasta and the surrounding areas.

Sáttítla Highlands National Monument
The Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum is pleased to present a panel presentation on the Sáttítla Highlands National Monument on September 25th at 7pm. In coordination with the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center, learn all about NorCal's newest national monument.

Angel Gomez will tell many stories of this well-traveled road, from the original Native people to fur trappers, geologists, forty-niners, and more - all happening right in our Museum's front yard.
The Siskiyou Trail once ran from Washington State to the Bay Area. Originally, it was the indigenous people's footpath. The first settlers arriving in the 1850s built their roads along this ancient route - including Old Stage Road.

Michael Zanger is a local mountaineer who has guided countless people to the summit and founded the Shasta Mountain Guides, as well as authoring several books on the mountain. Jack Moore has helped to re-establish the Sisson Trail, the original route that led from the city to the summit.
The first recorded ascent of Mt Shasta was made 170 years ago.
