For that reason I’ve been very enthralled by signing what the deal is with that Arachno-plane, as the project’s creator calls it. I almost imagine it like a decaying spider-oligarchy a la Dune.

highkey agree. What I only briefly mentioned but do strongly believe is that, like all of UW and indeed like all Vorthosing, there’s a kind of melancholy to OM1. The authoritarian worldbuilding model means that there’s still a shadowy difference been fan flavor text and legit text.

Completely agree! In the same way, I’ve been noticing—and grown wary—of the little cliches that I find myself falling into, like cute little double-meanings or reversals (something I wrote about on my Substack a while ago but am now LIVING)

I’m proud to share bc it gave me the chance to talk to the project’s creator, who’s incredibly talented, generous with their thoughts, and was completely classy.

A project like this could’ve been a Snyder Cut nightmare, but it isn’t. it’s born out of genuine love for Magic, not clickbait polemic.

I would! I like that UB’s high-concept theming often spurs fun, interesting design (Jackal, Bill the Pony, Wise Mothman, MacReady, and so on) but I do think there’s something a little numb about looking at uneven illustrations of existing properties
