SurreyDPAC, CUPE728 & STA have launched a campaign calling on the BC government to fully fund public education. Overcrowded classrooms, cuts to EAs & programs, and 360+ portables are unacceptable.

A heartfelt thank you to the Surrey Fire Fighters and Mayor Locke for your generous paper donation to our classrooms. Your continued support reminds us that we’re stronger when we stand together in solidarity for our community’s kids.

Surrey schools are overcrowded, underfunded, and stretched thin—while provincial promises go unmet.

STA, CUPE728 & Surrey DPAC say: enough is enough.

It’s time to fund public education like our kids’ futures depend on it—because they do.

Surrey has cut elementary band. People once moved here because of strong public programs. Now they’re being gutted.

This is what chronic underfunding looks like. Cuts by the BC Liberals weren’t reversed by the NDP - and kids are paying the price.

An excellent article in the Winter issue of Canadian School Library Journal about the implications of censorship, the principles of collection development and the language of censorship as it applies to school libraries. Check it out here: journal.canadianschoollibraries.ca/the-language...

I’m a proponent of tariffs but believe that books should be exempt. School library budgets are already stretched thin.

Morgan Elementary’s book of the week is “Autumn Peltier, Water Warrior” by C. Lindstrom and illustrator B. George.
A #ssnnfboy nominee, this story is about Autumn, an Indigenous young woman who has dedicated her life to advocating for the protection of water.

Jimmy Carter also supported libraries.

In 1976 he said:

“I believe that federal help for the nation's library system should be funded on a sustained & stable basis. If we are to have an educated & informed population we need a strong & open library system supported by a committed administration.”
