On the train from Cascais to Lisbon yesterday morning, around 10, I was seated across from an older man. Tall, thin, white hair. Shirt, tie, sport coat. Probably 80-85. Very dignified. Carrying a dozen red roses. My first thought was how sweet. It was my second thought that had me crying

Fortunately I'm not a gambling man. Any money I might have made wagering on Senate Democrats, I would have lost quickly betting on the Supreme Court. Maybe I could make that up with a punt on Mike Johnson finding a way to avoid swearing in Adelita Grijalva when the House eventually reconvenes

Here's another bit of good news today: "The Spanish government has granted citizenship to 170 descendants of volunteers in the International Brigades in recognition of their fight against fascism during the Franco dictatorship that followed the civil war."
