Just a film dork that reviews them on YouTube! Figured I'd give this Blue sky a go! Expect sharing of my movie reviews with a heavy dose of DnD, Anime, Wrestling and in general anything geeky! Ft some F1 Ice Hockey and Footy of course.

Brendan's back in a story of lies, legacy, loneliness and the need to fill the hole that's missing in one's life. #RentalFamily was a welcome tonic at LFF, and I would highly recommend.

Find out why here: youtu.be/n9Tet9Oc1zo
So every LFF there's always one film that I wouldn't have otherwise have heard of that jumps out at me. Next Sohee, Happyend, Gasoline Rainbow, Paris 13th district, and this year it was #TheHolyBoy an Italian Horror ♥️

Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone team up again, this time including the ever impressive Jesse Plemons in what is quite a gripping tale of crazy talk and wild theories, that may or may not have something to them depending on your side 👀

The Boss of us all is finally being depicted on the big screen this Friday! Sadly despite Jeremy Allen White's best efforts, this is yet another musical biopic that plays it a little too safe.

Full Review now on the channel!
My London Film Festival reviews could only begin with del Toro's #Frankenstein a beautifully shot tragedy of a creature, who never asked to be created, played brilliantly by Elordi, that DEMANDS to be seen on the biggest screen possible!

Whilst I enjoyed the performances in #GoodFortune and appreciated what it was trying to say, it's virtue singling feels very soulless considering the wealth of its cast and reminds us that films are just a fantasy, and that most of us are expected to just deal without comfort.
31 in person and 2 online watches later my #LFF journey concluded Friday, and this might have been the most consistent iteration I've attended.

My tier list of every single movie I watched is now live on The Movie Apprentice YT channel!
Whilst my in person is over, there are still online offerings to be had! #33 #BecomingHuman is a gorgeous movie to look at with colours popping off the screen! This bittersweet look at the world and the fear of living in it has its moments, but does drag its feet near the end.
#32 My final in person for LFF #Christy can be firmly filed under a fantastic movie I never want to watch again. Sweeney is a knockout in this biopic! It made me angry and was difficult to watch at times, and that's the intention. Some uncomfortable flaws but overall, Loved it. Great end to the fest
Film #31 has Jennifer Lawrence perhaps delivering a career best in a gritty and nonsensical film about postnatal depression. #DieMyLove is definitely one for the art house fans out there, though I personally struggled to connect with it as I wanted to believe its characters more.
Film #30 Ethan Hawke is damn near unrecognizable in #BlueMoon as the very chatty Lorenz Hart in what is an hour and a half builds up to an obvious penny drop all but he sees coming. If you like stage plays you'll love it, but if not for Hawks commitment this could have been bland and forgettable.
At this point in suing Brendan Fraser for emotional damages. Film #29 was #RentalFamily and whilst the cynic in me wants to say it's obvious how it's gonna play out, it really doesn't matter when the execution is that damn good. If a film breaks me multiple times, it's a winner in my book.
Today has been long and it was rounded off with #28 #LeftHandedGirl and sometimes you just need a film to be real and warm your heart, and this film does just that! Shih-Ching Tsous first director outing in two decades enders us to this small family, taking many unexpected turns along the way ♥️
#27 was the definition of a film festival movie! #AUsefulGhost provides both a commentary on silencing undesirables and forbidden love, whilst also providing a fight between a possessed vacuum cleaner and a possessed fridge. It is both bonkers and heartfelt, with a crazy finale!
#26 was the absurd #whatmarielleknows which presents the what if scenario of your child knowing and seeing what you're doing at all times. The deadpan delivery of shock humour lines are what push this above its concept and all three core cast members understood the assignment!
And the boss comes in at #25 Allen White, Young and Graham all deliver solid performances, but #SpringsteenDeliverMeFromNowhere is unfortunately just another safe musician biopic, that doesn't commit fully to the story beats it presents.
After a day off #24 was the latest Park Chan-wook film #NoOtherChoice an absolutely hilarious and morbid movie that shows just how tough the job market is out there! Lee Byung-hun showed outstanding comedic timing and the cinematography is chefs kiss. A little bloated but good.
#23 was Nia DaCostas new film #Hedda and was a pleasant surprise to see her introduce the film. Tessa Thompson is great as this manipulative force of nature carefully cutting her way through this party, but alas it meant I was very detached emotionally. It's fine but that's it.
#22 the choice to tell the story of #Hamlet in modern day London but keeping the dialogue exactly the same as the play is a choice that ultimately does not pay off despite Riz Ahmed giving his best effort. Very much like the Romeo and Juliet of the 90s but tries too hard.
Well I didn't know what to expect with #TheWorldOfLove and it wrecked me. The tale of a victim that refuses to let it define them, as they navigate love, family and peoples attitude towards them. Never giving all the information, but giving just enough, this was powerful! #21
Del Toro you son of a gun! #Frankenstein is simply a beautiful piece of cinema. Cinematography, score, set design, SFX, performances all work in harmony to form this tragedy of a man determined to cheat death, and the tragedy of the creature born from it. What a movie! #20
Holy hell #TheHolyBoy is an outright knock out. It's stylish and homage filled cinematography, densely packed cast, eerie score, and it's over riding theme on vices, trauma and what we do to hold it back, mixed in with some homosexual subtext, this is a horror that delivers! #19
Whilst the appearance of Chris Pine was hilarious #18 #TheKidnappingOfArabella struggles to resonate with me. Enjoyed the dynamic of Arabella and Holly, and some of the laughs were great, but there are a number of lulls between the laughs and I struggled to connect with the story
I love a bit of football so of course I had to see #Saipan as movie #17 depicting the infamous bust up between Keane and McCarthy before the '02' world cup. Coogan is solid as Mick but it's Hardwickes Keane that shines brightest in a solid but safe movie.
