Netflix has a new cure for decision fatigue
Netflix has a new cure for decision fatigue
As Netflix has added sports and live events, its TV viewing experience has had to evolve, executives said in a blog post and presentation previewing the updates with reporters on May 6. The changes include moves to promote live events, use artificial intelligence in search, and help users get to search faster. 'Our members do a lot of eye gymnastics when they're scrolling down and right and going back and forth between rows and title details on the homepage,' Eunice Kim, chief product officer of Netflix, said in the presentation. 'This makes it hard to absorb enough information to understand what is unique about each title.' As it matures, Netflix isn't growing as fast in its core markets of the US and Canada. It has more opportunities in Asia, where there's more upside for its lower-priced, ad-supported tier. In those mature markets, it's moving toward time spent as its North Star and away from subscriber growth. The more time its ad-tier subscribers spend on Netflix, the more ads they see and the more money Netflix makes. That means putting out an enormous amount of new titles that meet the varied tastes of its more than 300 million subscribers worldwide. It's why Netflix is rolling out more live programming like the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight and the YouTube-born dating show, 'Pop the Balloon.' It's why the service is considering offering other kinds of content, like video podcasts, that people are increasingly watching on TVs. Despite being far and away the winner of the streaming wars, Netflix's share of US TV viewership has remained largely flat over the past year at around 8%, according to Nielsen. Meanwhile, Google's YouTube has pulled away from the pack, to 12% of TV viewing in March, up 19% year over year. Here's a breakdown of the changes Netflix said it's rolling out to users in the coming weeks and months to get them to make viewing decisions faster:

Where Was HBO’s ‘Task’ Filmed? Tips For Exploring The Philadelphia Suburbs
Where Was HBO’s ‘Task’ Filmed? Tips For Exploring The Philadelphia Suburbs
HBO’s newest crime drama, “Task,” stars Mark Ruffalo as Tom Brandis, a priest turned trash collector who finds himself stuck between his past and present as he leads a task force to crack down on violent robberies in the community. The working-class suburbs surrounding Philadelphia are both the setting and filming locations for much of the show, giving it the authentic look and feel of that region. Considering “Task” was shot on location, mostly in Delaware County, the setting becomes a character itself in the gritty drama series. If you want to see where the action takes place, consider visiting some of the iconic film locations on your next road trip or getaway. Seeing the Philly suburbs yourself and interacting with locals who bear the same recognizable accent as those in the show is a surefire way to connect you with the action and energy of the area. As CBS News reports, “Task” was largely filmed on location in and around Delaware County, Pennsylvania (often called “Delco”), which includes the cities and towns of Media, Chester, Newtown Square, Marcus Hook and the Ridley Township. Some of the key scenes were even filmed at some key civic and everyday settings, like the conversations shot in the Delaware County Courthouse. Outside of Delco, some scenes from the new show were filmed in the natural environments surrounding the city of Philadelphia. Wissahickon Valley Park and Ridley Creek State Park offered their wooded and moody areas for several scenes that show the natural landscape in contrast with suburban life. If you’re planning your trip to Philadelphia, be sure to check out our recommendations of where to stay, what to eat and what you can’t go without seeing. Key Scenes: The trap house break-ins, robberies and resulting shootouts that are central to the plot were all shot within Delco. Per Time Out, the Delco Marcus Hook Community Center doubles as a police station and federal facility in the show, just as the Delaware County Courthouse in Media, Pennsylvania, is used for pivotal courtroom scenes throughout the series. Best Time to Visit: Depending on what weather attracts you, you can visit Delco practically any time of year. Fall foliage will be at its peak from September to October, but numerous festivals and events take place throughout the summer as well. Expect a quieter city and some snowy days if you decide to visit anytime from December to March. Transportation Options: The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) serves Delaware County via the Regional Rail, trolley, and light rail, and with numerous bus routes. Delco is also easily accessible by car from Interstate 476 and U.S. Route 13. Much of the show’s domestic and interpersonal drama was filmed on the streets in Delco, which gives the show its authentic feel and grit. Some notable scenes include those that take place in the county courtrooms, the career fair at Neumann University’s Mirenda Center, the robberies at traphouses and the conversations had at the Marcus Hook Community Center. The towns of Aston, Upper Chichester, Marcus Hook and Ridley Township were all featured in the show, according to Sportskeeda. History buffs will recognize the area as one of the oldest settlements in Pennsylvania. There were also a handful of notable battles fought on these grounds during the Revolutionary War, including the Battle of Brandywine in 1777. Time Out notes that Ridley Creek State Park is also featured in the series during many of the nature scenes, providing a break from the urban and suburban settings that dominate the show. Things to Do: American Revolution historians will delight in visiting the Brandywine Battlefield Park on Fridays and Saturdays to learn about the largest single-day land battle of that time. You could also take a stroll through Ridley Creek State Park or Rose Tree County Park for a dose of nature. Where to Eat: Tavola Restaurant + Bar in Springfield offers a full-service menu on a covered patio that overlooks the golf course and surrounding palm trees. The Clam Tavern is a local favorite, known for its delicious seafood and bar favorites. Where to Stay: The Inn at Swarthmore, located on the scenic campus of Swarthmore College, is an easy train ride away from Central and is a favorite among individuals visiting for business meetings or weekend events. With unobstructed views of the Delaware River, the 1740 House is another possibility for those looking for a quiet getaway in a country inn. The living room is complete with an original fireplace from the 1800s, making it perfect for a chilly night in. Key Scenes: In episode three, Lizzie (Alison Oliver) and Fabien Frankel (Anthony Grasso) stop by a biker bar named Barnaby’s to discuss leads on their ongoing assignment while also taking a moment to unwind from a hectic workweek, per Atlas of Wonders. Best Time to Visit: Evenings and nights are the times when the bar will be at its peak. According to TripAdvisor, Ridley House is open from 4-9:30 PM during the week and from 10 a.m.-10 PM on weekends. Expect busier crowds after 7 PM. Transportation Options: Bus routes, including SEPTA Bus 113 and Route 107, both run along MacDade Boulevard, with stops near the bar. The regional transit stop MacDade Blvd & Norwood Avenue is also nearby, and there is a parking lot located on site. Opt for a rideshare or taxi service if you plan to enjoy alcoholic beverages while visiting. The Ridley House, located off of MacDade Boulevard in Holmes, Pennsylvania, is a popular hangout for locals and visitors alike. Located in Holmes, Pennsylvania, the locally run bar is easily accessible and features a full menu, as well as craft beer and cocktail options. The bar makes its debut in episode three where it’s called Barnaby’s – a callback to The Ridley House’s former namesake until it was changed in 2019, per CBS News. Visiting this location for a brew and a bite is the perfect way to decompress, just like some of the show’s frontrunners must do as they are attempting to solve the violent crimes taking place in the surrounding neighborhoods. Things to Do: If you’re looking for an activity before a night of beers, consider visiting MacDade Bowl for a casual option that’s great for groups. You could also visit the Colonial Pennsylvania Farmstead for a close-up look at 18th-century farm life. Where to Eat: Try the dishes on the Ridley House’s rustic American Farm Fare menu with a craft beer for the full “Task” experience. If you’re looking for something easy, check out the nearby Gateway Diner or indulge in a late-night milkshake and burger at Nifty Fifty’s, also located off of MacDade Boulevard. Where to Stay: The Clarion Hotel, SpringHill Suites by Marriott and Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham are all located less than 10 minutes away from the bar and extremely convenient for access to the Philadelphia Airport. Key Scenes: In the trailer, Mark Ruffalo’s character is seen hunting down Robbie (Tom Pelphrey) as he attempts to catch the crew responsible for the robberies in Delaware County. The scenes showing the characters running through the woods, including a notable chase scene, were all filmed in and around Wissahickon Valley Park, The Chestnut Hill Local reports. Best Time to Visit: Autumn is the ideal time to stroll through this park if you’re looking to take in the vibrant colors and scenery without battling the summer crowds. Additionally, early mornings on weekends throughout the year are an excellent option for hikers and bikers to enjoy the trails. Transportation Options: The park is easily accessible by car or by Route 9 on the SEPTA bus track, with a stop right at the Ridge Avenue entrance of the park. Regional rails and trains are also an option, with direct access to the park from the Wissahickon Station. Wissahickon Valley Park provides wooded scenery and beautiful nature views that contrast the urban and suburban homes that are at the heart of the story. According to PrimeTimer, key shootout scenes and chasing scenes were filmed in and around the park, including scenes that are teased in the show’s trailer. 2000+ acres of trees provided a perfect background for ominous scenes that further the impact of the criminals’ agenda. Filming also took place along Kitchen’s Lane, Thomas Mill Covered Bridge and Wises Mill Road, all located within the park. Visiting any park can be beautiful and beneficial for our health, but stopping by this specific area may allow viewers to feel what the characters were feeling as they ran for their lives through the dark woods. If you don’t have the bravery to walk the trails at night, consider visiting the park during the fall season to enjoy the changing leaves and comfortable temperatures. Things to Do: Hike, bike or run along Forbidden Drive, one of the most popular gravel paths in the park. The historic Thomas Mill Covered Bridge is another popular destination, as is Mom Rinker’s Rock & Toleration Statue, which boasts views of the valley and creek. Where to Eat: Valley Green Inn is a historic tavern located along Forbidden Drive that makes a perfect option for a midday snack. Maria’s Ristorante on Summit is another crowd favorite with white linen tablecloths and Italian fare for the whole family. Where to Stay: The Chestnut Hill Hotel is a boutique hotel option located within the park. The hotel is known for its unique decor, maintained history and focus on customer service. Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue is another option that makes both Historic Downtown Philadelphia and the Philadelphia International Airport extremely accessible.

Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby will bring the energy of the famous Carnaby Street in London during the swinging '60s, combined with Chef Ramsay's iconic British dishes. 'Stunning interiors, incredible food and great music, whether it's date night or dinner with friends or family, The Carnaby is going to bring the very best of cool Britannia to Downtown Disney District.' Stephen King Gave HBO's It: Welcome To Derry Creators An Invaluable Profanity Lesson
Stephen King Gave HBO's It: Welcome To Derry Creators An Invaluable Profanity Lesson
One of the best parts of Stephen King's 'It' is the way King fully embraces the 1958 vibes of the kids' timeline. King himself was a child in 1958, so he drew on the actual slang he and his friends used, with a specificity that would be hard to capture if he hadn't been there himself. King's experience as a '50s kid and '60s teen came in handy for the writers of the upcoming HBO show 'It: Welcome to Derry.' Showrunners Andy and Barbara Muschietti, both born a generation after King, do not have that intimate knowledge of '50s slang and profanity, so they leaned on the author himself for help with writing the dialogue for these 1962 kid characters. 'One of the most special moments that we had in all these developments is Steve writing an email and saying, 'Well, we didn't use the word 'f***' a lot when we were kids. Actually, if you said 'f***' or 'f***ing' in front of someone, you would expect to be knocked down.' So he wrote a whole email about the word 'f***ing' because, of course, there's a lot of cursing in our movies.' The lack of f-words in '50s slang can be seen throughout the book. While modern kids would tell chatterbox Richie to 'shut the f*** up,' the '58 kids instead tell him, 'Beep, beep, Richie.' You might think that's the author sanitizing the story, but the rest of the book — which does not shy away from depicting the casual slurs people would drop at the time — makes clear that's not what's going on here. It's easy to see what King means, because even in the past 20 years, you can definitely see the declining taboo nature of the f-bomb. I often overhear kids today say the word, and their parents will barely even pretend to be upset with them. We've reached a point where even milquetoast self-help books will have the swear in the title, and teens will make fun of those titles for trying too hard. Perhaps the clearest sign of the changing times is the way politicians have used it. Texas Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke called a guy a 'motherf***er' at a campaign rally in 2022, and people barely noticed. Some Republicans tried to raise a stink about it, but they weren't successful because, well, look at all the actually vile stuff their leader's been saying. At a certain point, politicians swearing stopped being a memorable thing to voters, even though 20 years ago it would have gotten them into serious trouble. As of 2025, we've reached a point where a politician saying the f-word feels more corny than it does dangerous. Once Chuck Schumer starts throwing around f-bombs, you know the word's lost all bite. Another indicator comes from the reactions to the word on live TV. When Charles Rocket said 'f***in'' in a 1981 episode of 'Saturday Night Live,' it shocked the nation. He had to go on an apology tour to the NBC execs and was fired a few weeks later. Meanwhile, in a 2018 'SNL' sketch, host Sam Rockwell accidentally blurted out the f-word, and everyone found the slip-up charming. Back in the late '50s of Stephen King's 'It,' saying 'f***' on live TV would have horrified half the audience; today, they'd forget about it by the time the show cut to commercial.

HBO’s The Chair Company debuts with strong Rotten Tomatoes score
HBO’s The Chair Company debuts with strong Rotten Tomatoes score
HBO's newest comedy series, The Chair Company, premiered on October 12, 2025, and has become one of the best shows on the Network. With positive reviews and a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the cringe-comedy/thriller series is already becoming a hit among viewers. The show revolves around William Ronald Trosper, played by Tim Robinson, who is also the co-creator and EP of The Chair Company. After an embarrassing incident, Tosper begins to investigate a conspiracy. Like other Tim Robinson shows, the latest HBO series adheres to Robinson's style of cringe comedy and blends it with elements such as thriller, horror, and mystery, making it an entertaining watch for viewers. The premiere episode of The Chair Company features the central story, i.e., Ron Tronsper's humiliating incident. After giving a speech, before beginning the mall project he is leading as Project Manager, Ron comes back to sit on his chair, but the chair collapses, and this embarrassing moment sets Ron on a mission to investigate a conspiracy surrounding the manufacturer of the furniture piece. Since he is not someone who can forget about any kind of humiliation, he looks for the company name and calls the customer care to complain about their product. However, he does not get a satisfactory response and begins looking for the address of the company, and when he visits the location, he finds nothing but an almost abandoned factory, which begins his investigation into the company. The narrative will remind many viewers of Robinson's other popular sketch comedy series, I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. Like the Comedy Central show, the latest series also depicts how the characters are incapable of letting anything go and entangle themselves more in humiliating situations. However, this drive of the characters attempting to rationalize these moments brings out the originality of the comedy series. The unease factor and absurdity of the show make it a unique experience for the viewers. Therefore, it is not a surprise that The Chair Company impresses its viewers, critics, and even got the perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Until now, the HBO comedy thriller has 21 reviews that make up its perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, apart from putting his signature cringe comedy, The Chair Company also has other elements of thriller and mystery that add to the brilliance of the show. While it is described as one of the best comedy shows of the year due to its original storyline, the performances of the actors are another reason the show is thriving. Other than Robinson, the performance of Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini was praised by many critics. The latest HBO comedy thriller series also stars Lake Bell, Jim Downey, Sophia Lillis, and Lou Diamond Phillips. New episodes of the series will drop every Sunday until November 30, 2025, on HBO and HBO Max.

7 top new shows I'd stream this week on Netflix, Hulu and more (Oct. 13-19)
7 top new shows I'd stream this week on Netflix, Hulu and more (Oct. 13-19)
Crisp air may be rolling in, but the small screen is heating up as new TV shows premiere on Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services, as well as cable and broadcast channels. 'The Diplomat' season 3 ratchets up the political games, while 'Murdaugh: Death in the Family' pulls viewers into a dark, real-life saga. Film lovers can’t miss 'Mr. Scorsese,' a revealing portrait of the man behind some of cinema’s most iconic moments. And the final season of 'Solar Opposites' delivers its signature brand of offbeat, interstellar humor. Here's our guide on the top new TV shows to check out this week. Get ready to say goodbye to Earth’s quirkiest invaders. “Solar Opposites” returns for its final season, which finds the Shlorpians flat broke. With their diamond-making machine toast, Korvo, Terry, Jesse, Yumyulack and the ever-evolving Pupa must figure out how to live a budget life without their expensive toys. Meanwhile, the tiny citizens of The Wall face their most shocking, high-stakes showdown yet. Expect the usual mix of absurd schemes, sci-fi shenanigans, fart jokes and pop-culture references, but this farewell mixes alien antics with surprisingly heartfelt questions about family and identity. Sam Fisher is back — older, grittier, and still deadly. “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad shepherds this animated series based on the popular video game franchise. It follows the legendary Fourth Echelon operative (voiced by Liev Schreiber) out of retirement and into a web of old enemies, new conspiracies and high-stakes stealth ops. Canon to the games but with fresh twists, the show lets longtime fans and newcomers alike step into Fisher’s shadowy world without missing a beat. Maya Rudolph isn’t done skewering billionaire life in the third season of her comedy. When we last saw Molly Wells, she’d confessed her feelings to Arthur (Nat Faxon) — only to get shot down mid-kiss — and then hopped on a jet to anywhere-but-here. Now, she and Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) are stranded on a deserted island and let’s just say survival isn’t exactly in their skill set. Back home, the Wells Foundation crew keeps the ship afloat, while guest stars like D’Arcy Carden, Kesha and Henry Winkler drop by to stir things up. Inspired by the breakout “Murdaugh Murders” podcast, this miniseries takes the Southern Gothic nightmare that’s made headlines and transforms it into a pulpy, prestige drama. Jason Clarke and Patricia Arquette lead as Alex and Maggie Murdaugh, pillars of a South Carolina legal dynasty whose glossy world unravels after son Paul (Johnny Berchtold) is tied to a fatal boat crash. Enter journalist Mandy Matney (Brittany Snow), whose dogged reporting peels back layers of corruption, cover-ups and murder. “The result is a chilling portrait of a family that’s undone by its own secrets. This limited series drama revisits one of America’s most chilling true crimes. Based on the 2021 docuseries, it delves into the dual lives of John Wayne Gacy (Michael Chernus): the charming neighbor and the killer behind the clown makeup. From “Dr. Death” creator Patrick Macmanus, it’s a haunting look at the victims, investigators, and families forever changed, and the societal blind spots that let evil hide in plain sight. When season 3 kicks off, the twisty political thriller picks up mid–mid-constitutional crisis and doesn’t stop to catch its breath. The president is dead, Grace Penn (Allison Janney) is suddenly commander in chief, and her husband, Todd (new cast member Bradley Whitford), is already testing out his “First Gentleman” smirk. Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) is stuck living the nightmare of getting what she asked for, while Hal (Rufus Sewell) happily plots her path to the vice presidency. But old secrets, more international intrigue and messy marriage issues threaten to upend the new world order. “Mr. Scorsese” isn’t so much a documentary as it is a five-hour hang with Marty himself — equal parts film school, therapy session, and nostalgia trip. Rebecca Miller’s five-part documentary series opens up the vault, weaving Scorsese’s own stories with a murderer’s row of voices: De Niro, DiCaprio, Spielberg, Schoonmaker, Mick Jagger. The result is a portrait that’s warm, funny and just self-mythologizing enough. Sure, it’s a little reverent, but when the guy basically is American cinema, who’s going to argue? Disney Just Said Goodbye to One of Its Most Popular Streaming Platforms
Disney Just Said Goodbye to One of Its Most Popular Streaming Platforms
Disney+ has made its biggest and boldest international streaming move since launch: As of October 8, the Star brand is officially gone, and Hulu has taken its place globally. Now, the name Star might not mean a lot to American viewers, but to the rest of the world, this is a huge change. The company announced Thursday that the Hulu name will now be the global general entertainment hub on Disney+ outside the U.S., replacing the Star title. The shift marks the latest step in Disney’s long-term plan to fully integrate Hulu into Disney+ by 2026. According to Disney, the change isn’t just making the app look nice and pretty. Subscribers will begin to see “further integrations of Hulu across the Disney+ app as part of an ongoing and iterative slate of product updates,” starting with a more visual home screen, redesigned navigation, and sharper personalization tools. “These enhancements are just the beginning, with additional updates planned in the lead-up to the launch of a unified app experience next year.' In preparation for the unified platform, Disney says the refresh is going to make it clearer that Disney+ offers a deep library of adult-focused entertainment — one of the reasons it believes pushing the Hulu brand globally is more effective than the generic Star branding. The rebrand follows Disney fully acquiring Hulu from Comcast earlier this year. While the company has not yet set a date to sunset Hulu’s standalone app in the U.S., it has confirmed that both Disney+ and Hulu will remain available as individual subscriptions for the time being. Meanwhile, price hikes are set to hit U.S. customers on October 21: Disney’s goal is a fully unified Disney+/Hulu experience by 2026, which it believes will cement the platform as one of the strongest players in streaming. For now, the disappearance of Star and the rise of Hulu on Disney+ is the first clear signal of what’s to come.

Is HBO Max 4K? No, and here's why the streaming service doesn't offer the format
Is HBO Max 4K? No, and here's why the streaming service doesn't offer the format
By clicking “Sign up”, you agree to receive emails from Business Insider. In addition, you accept Insider’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. When HBO launched its Go and Now platforms, 4K wasn't a widely available format. But in recent years, more devices have been developed to support the high video quality, thus making it more highly sought after by viewers.  Despite this growing interest, HBO didn't shift its cable-compliment and stand-alone service to offering 4K. That was widely considered unusual, but when WarnerMedia announced the debut of HBO Max, many assumed the earlier reluctance was due to plans for its latest platform.  4K resolution is the latest and most advanced resolution, a step above 1080p and Blu-Ray. A similar component is HDR support (high dynamic range). Considering the service marketing itself as the premium HBO subscription, most users expect at least some 4K titles to be made available for viewing on their smart TV, mobile device, or computer. Unfortunately, the newest HBO streaming platform does not offer 4K capability. Complaints from fans of shows like 'Game of Thrones' immediately followed the launch, as fans wanted to watch their favorite series in this best widely available format possible. Business Insider's Kevin Webb reported that the service doesn't offer high dynamic range (HDR) capabilities either. While this isn't a replacement for 4K, it's considered a suitable counterpart, enhancing colors and contrast in your TV display. In a statement to CNET, a spokesperson for HBO Max said that while 4K isn't currently available, the streaming service has plans for it. '4K HDR, Dolby Vision, HDR10 Plus and Dolby Atmos are on our roadmap,' the spokesperson said, though a specific time frame for when subscribers can expect it was not provided.  HBO Go and its cable counterpart HBO Now also lack 4K streaming and always have. For this reason, many people mistakenly expected HBO Max to offer the best video quality format for its top-quality shows.  It's worth noting that if HBO is ever to add 4K titles, you'll still need a compatible device to stream it at that quality.  Some services include 4K capability in their monthly fee, but others only offer it through an upgrade. Netflix falls into the latter category, offering 4K and HDR streaming when you upgrade to their highest tier. This costs $15.99 per month compared to the base $8.99 per month level. Business Insider previously reported that Disney Plus offers 4K options on select titles for no additional cost. However, you'll need a 4K television or monitor and a suitable internet download speed. That includes some of the streamer's most sought-after titles, including the 'Star Wars' and Marvel franchises. Similar to Disney Plus, Hulu requires compatible devices but features a smaller list of 4K titles. Amazon Prime also includes 4K titles in its pricing, leaving HBO as the only major streaming service without the option.

The 10 Greatest Netflix Drama Shows Ever, Ranked According to IMDb
The 10 Greatest Netflix Drama Shows Ever, Ranked According to IMDb
Dennis has written for publications like USA Today, Prediction News, and Psychology Today before bringing his thoughts to Collider. Despite consuming an arguably concerning amount of Netflix content, he maintains enough critical faculties to form opinions worth reading. His claim to fame is not falling asleep through virtually every film he's encountered in recent years—with one notable exception: falling asleep during 'Barbie' only to be awakened by Ryan Gosling belting 'I'm Just Ken.' When not analyzing entertainment or defending his streaming habits as 'research,' Dennis can be found wondering if perhaps he should go outside more often. For over a decade, Netflix has been producing original TV shows and movies that have captured audiences worldwide. Whether it’s a drama about the Queen of England or a dramedy about a jaded celebrity, the streamer has released projects that have been beloved by critics and audiences alike. Some starred massive Hollywood stars, and others were led by newcomers who skyrocketed into the spotlight. At the same time, there are Netflix projects that didn’t succeed or weren’t well-received; the ones that did have been down as the best dramas of all time. Using IMDB’s Top 250 TV Shows list, you can find many Netflix projects throughout — a true testament to the streamer’s mission to establish itself as a producer of high-quality content. Historical drama television shows rarely reach a broad audience due to their often niche subjects; however, Netflix’s The Crown was beloved worldwide. Running over six seasons, the series chronicled England’s Queen Elizabeth from the 1940s to the mid-2000s. Every two seasons, the cast would change as the real-life people aged, and this is one of the projects where world-class actors were involved. The Queen was played by Claire Foy, Olivia Colman, and Imelda Staunton. The Crown received 87 Emmy nominations and 24 wins. However, the show did receive a fair share of criticism for its historical inaccuracies, particularly in the latter seasons. The first seasons were highly praised, but by the last season, the series received mixed reviews, and its popularity had declined. Despite its uneven performance, the historical drama has become one of Netflix’s most notable original series. Netflix’s first “original TV show” made for the streamer was House of Cards. Starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, this political thriller follows Kevin Underwood (Spacey), a congressman who feels wronged by the current president and engages in plenty of manipulative actions to take his revenge on the administration with the help of his wife (Wright) and chief of staff (Michael Kelly). The series ran for six seasons, but after sexual assault allegations against Spacey were revealed, Netflix fired him, and Wright led the show in the final season. Throughout this run, the series received 56 Emmy nominations but only won 7 of them. Spacey and Wright each won once for their role in different years. It also became the first show created for a streamer to earn an Emmy nomination. Although its lead was controversial, House of Cards remains one of Netflix’s most acclaimed dramas. One of Netflix’s most talked-about early projects was Stranger Things. Launching all the way back in 2016, the series is set to conclude its final chapter at the end of 2025. Besides Winona Ryder, David Harbour, and Sean Astin, the series's cast was largely comprised of newcomers who have since become fan favorites, including Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink. Inspired by Stephen King and H. P. Lovecraft, the Duffer Brothers created Stranger Things. The sci-fi horror drama gained popularity thanks to its unique premise, 1980s nostalgia, and outstanding performances by the ensemble cast, which has won 12 Emmys so far. The series follows a fictional town in Indiana, where a national laboratory conducts supernatural experiments and inadvertently opens a rift into a parallel dimension called the Upside Down. One of the kids, Will, is abducted, a psychokinetic young girl, Eleven, escapes the lab, and befriends Will’s friends, and decides to help them find him. Blue Eye Samurai is an adult-animated series launching back in 2023 and has been renewed for a second season. The voice cast features stars such as Maya Erskine, George Takei, Randall Park, and Brenda Song. Created by husband-wife duo Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, this animated action series received rave reviews. Most feedback focused on the show’s beautiful art style, as well as its keen attention to character development and story arc. Blue Eye Samurai follows Mizu, an onna-musha (female warrior) who is half-Japanese and half-white. It takes place during the Edo period, when Japan was closed off to the outside world and ostracized foreigners. Mizu’s blue eyes have made her a victim of this shame, and Mizu decides to take revenge on the four white men who were in Japan at her time of birth, with one of them likely being her father. Netflix has plenty of sci-fi mystery dramas, but none are quite like Dark. Created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the thriller follows four families over the same period across multiple generations. What starts as a story about a missing child evolves into a time-sci-fi series filled with connections spanning many decades. While a series like this can often become too convoluted and poorly written, Dark managed to avoid this common pitfall. This is primarily thanks to the creators mapping out the entire story before starting the first season. Knowing where they were going, they were able to make seamless connections that wove into a beautiful three-season tapestry. Since its release, Dark has been featured on multiple 'Best of' lists due to its outstanding acting, compelling script, and sci-fi noir aesthetic. It’s not surprising that it’s also considered one of Netflix’s best dramas. Netflix’s biographical crime drama Narcos follows Pablo Escobar’s cartel for its first and second seasons. In its third and final season, the series changes its focus to the DEA and the Cali Cartel. This is one of the rare series that was better received in its first season than in its second season. The first season received positive reviews, although not overwhelmingly so; however, the second and final season garnered mainly universal critical acclaim. Instead of having a fourth season, the creators created a spinoff series called Narcos: Mexico, which also ran for three seasons. The crime drama was filmed in Colombia, and the cast included Wagner Moura, Boyd Holbrook, and Pedro Pascal. In fact, after his breakout role in Game of Thrones, he gained more popularity thanks to Narcos. The series was created by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard, and Doug Miro, with Bernard and Miro also going on to create Griselda for Netflix. Despite being released only in 2025, When Life Gives You Tangerines has made its way into the upper echelons of Netflix’s dramas. The Korean drama is a romance series that has become a beloved favorite of K-drama fans. The series received eight nominations at the Baeksang Arts Awards, the Korean equivalent of the Emmys, and won four of them, including Best Drama. It has also become the highest-rated K-drama on IMDb and reached No. 1 in multiple countries on Netflix. The slice-of-life drama gets its name from taking place on Jeju Island, which is known for its tangerines. The series starts in the 1950s and follows the lives of a young woman who wants to be a poet and a fisherman’s son. The story spans over 16 episodes and many decades, resonating with viewers worldwide. BoJack Horseman is a Netflix animated black comedy series following BoJack Horseman (Will Arnett), a 1990s sitcom star who wants to return to the limelight with the help of a ghostwriter writing his autobiography. The first season received mixed reviews; however, subsequent seasons were widely praised for the writing, voice acting, and the excellent balance of humor and sadness. Running for 76 episodes and one special, BoJack Horseman covers topics like alcoholism, depression, trauma, and various aspects of the human condition. The approach to these topics, which strikes a balance between sensitivity to the seriousness and a layer of humor throughout, has established the series as one of the greatest animated shows of all time. BoJack Horseman was created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, who also created Amazon Prime Video’s Undone and Netflix’s Long Story Short. All three of these projects were praised for their balance of humor and serious topics. Based on the events of the 1989 Central Park jogger case, When They See Us is a Netflix crime drama created, written, and directed by the incredibly talented Ava DuVernay. With DuVernay’s vision, the drama became a massive success and received universal acclaim, particularly for the performance of the actors. The series received 16 Emmy nominations and won two. The Central Park Five (later known as the Exonerated Five) were played by Asante Blackk, Caleel Harris, Ethan Herisse, Jharrel Jerome, and Marquis Rodriguez. The cast also included established names like Niecy Nash, Vera Farmiga, and Felicity Huffman. The original NY prosecutor, Linda Fairstein, wrote an op-ed claiming that some of the project was inaccurate and even filed a lawsuit against Netflix. In response, Netflix has added a disclaimer to the series stating that some details were fictionalized to avoid further complications. Who knew that a series taking place in the world of Riot Games’ League of Legends would become the highest-rated Netflix drama on IMDB? Arcane is an action-adventure animated series consisting of two seasons and 18 episodes. The series follows two sisters, Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Powder/Jinx (Ella Purnell), and their complex relationship, as well as the deteriorating relationship between the prosperous city of Piltover and the oppressed and impoverished city of Zaun. The show has been praised for its animation style, writing, voice acting, and pacing. However, the second season received mixed reviews on some aspects, but was still generally well-received overall. The most remarkable aspect of the series is that it successfully captured both fans of the original video game and audiences unfamiliar with the world of the game.

HBO Max’s Coolest Animated Series Confirms New Release Schedule Ahead of Return
HBO Max’s Coolest Animated Series Confirms New Release Schedule Ahead of Return
One of HBO Max‘s coolest animated series is coming back to the streaming service with new episodes later this month, and has dropped some major details along with a new trailer ahead of its return. Adventure Time has been such a successful franchise for Warner Bros. Discovery that they have expanded it in some big ways since the original TV series came to an end. There have been several specials released since the end of the TV show, and now there’s even a new movie and spinoff now in the works. But its biggest spinoff success is set to continue in its own right too. Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake was a major hit when the first season made its debut with HBO Max sometime ago and quickly confirmed that a second season was now in the works. There had been very little revealed of this new season until just this month, however, as the series confirmed that it was already going to premiere its new season later this October. Now we’ve gotten the first full trailer for Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Season 2 released during the New York Comic Con 2025 weekend and you can check it out below. Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Season 2 will be making its premiere exclusively with HBO Max on October 23rd. Warner Bros. also confirmed that this new season will have ten episodes in total with a new episode releasing each week. The schedule also confirmed that the final episode of this new season will be debuting on December 25th, so fans will need to make their plans accordingly to make sure to check out each episode as soon as they arrive. Adam Muto returns from the first season as executive producer and showrunner for Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Season 2 in partnership with Cartoon Network Studios. Fred Seibert and Sam Register serve as executive producers, and the voice cast includes the likes of Madeleine Martin, Roz Ryan, and Ashly Burch. There are going to be some big recurring guest stars too like Anna Akana, Dee Bradley Baker, Maria Bamford, Matthew Broderick, Kris Collins, Frank Collison, Andy Daly, Grey DeLisle, Harvey Guillén, Patti Harrison, Manny Jacinto, Tom Kenny, Marc Maron, Jinkx Monsoon, Kumail Nanjiani, Olivia Olson, Vico Ortiz, Chelsea Peretti, Jeremy Shada, Hynden Walch, Pendleton Ward, and more. As for what actually is going to go down in Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Season 2, Warner Bros. teases the new episodes with, “After their journey through the multiverse, Fionna and Cake tackle new adventures while Huntress Wizard embarks on a desperate quest with fatal consequences.” Everything that happened in the first season clearly sparked a much bigger adventure to come, and Fionna and Cake will be taking it all head on. It also seems like there might be some changes to the voice cast compared to the first season as well as some of the characters heard in this trailer sound a bit different than the first season. But as of now, it’s yet to be revealed who is going to take over these roles from the extended list of guest stars revealed by Warner Bros. Either way, it thankfully won’t be too much longer until we get to see how it all shakes out.

Keira Knightley on How ’The Woman in Cabin 10’ Calls Back to Iconic Thrillers, Playing a Role ‘That Is Normally a Man’ and Why She ‘Can’t Wait’ to Watch Netflix ...
When director Simon Stone first read the script for Netflix‘s latest psychological thriller “The Woman in Cabin 10,” it was as if he was transported back in time. “I was really intrigued by how much it felt like it came from an era of movies that we don’t really do anymore,” Stone tells Variety of the film, which is based on Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel of the same name. “The script itself is very Hitchcockian — it’s of a period of thrillers that were made the last time the world went crazy politically, post-Watergate.” Out on Netflix now, “The Woman in Cabin 10” follows Lo Blacklock, an investigative journalist aboard a mysterious billionaire’s luxury cruise ship who is convinced she saw a passenger being thrown overboard. As Lo gets closer and closer to the truth, paranoia seeps in while everyone else on the ship tells her she is losing her mind. The tense film is anchored by none other than Keira Knightley, who delivers a layered performance as a woman refusing to back down in the face of injustice. “On the one hand she’s got a fragility, a sort of vulnerability, and on the other she’s got a real inner strength — a core of steel and an unshakeable sense of what is right. I think Keira nails that,” Ware says. To prepare, Stone asked Knightley to watch a series of iconic thrillers: Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Conversation,” starring Gene Hackman; “The Parallax View” with Warren Beatty; and the Robert Redford films “All the President’s Men” and “Three Days of the Condor.” Knightley, who has been on a run with the genre lately thanks to her hit Netflix series “Black Doves,” was eager to take on another edge-of-your-seat project. “I’m a big fan of the thriller genre, I love it, and all of those films that he mentioned have been films that I’ve just loved,” Knightley says. “So the opportunity to play that lead character — that is normally a man — was just one that I thought, ‘Oh God, this is exciting.’ You wouldn’t necessarily look at me and think Gene Hackman type, you know?” Knightley says she took inspiration from the “calm” performances of Hackman, Redford and Beatty, while at the same time making it her own by dialing up the paranoia. “You were like, ‘Warren Beatty does nothing in ‘Parallax View,'” Stone recalls with a chuckle. “And I said, ‘Well maybe give me a little bit more than that.’ And Keira finds this extraordinary nuance.” “It’s a relaxed, cool path that they choose, which is super interesting when you’re dealing with tension. That’s basically what a thriller is — it’s how you serve that kind of tension,” Knightley adds. “There’s a leaning against a wall or constantly chewing or constantly thinking and watching everybody else, but actually the action is happening with everybody around them.” Guy Pearce convincingly portrays the billionaire in question, Richard Bullmer, while Knightley’s Lo is aided in her search for the truth by her photographer ex-boyfriend Ben, played by David Ajala. “The one thing I really enjoyed about this story is how claustrophobic it felt and intense, in the right way,” Ajala says. “There was a good thrilling energy to it, if captured correctly on camera. And I don’t mind being involved in a whodunit murder mystery because then we all become armchair detectives trying to figure out who it is.” The character of Bullmer marks yet another shady figure in the repertoire of Pearce, who scored an Oscar nomination last year for his haunting performance as another filthy rich and ill-intentioned man in Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist.” Pearce says that he finds himself drawn to “characters that have internal darkness and things that they’re dealing with themself because it’s just interesting stuff to play.” Pearce will next star in Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi film “The Dog Stars,” while Knightley is set to deliver a second season of “Black Doves” for Netflix. Also in the works at the streamer is a new series adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” a text that Knightley is more than familiar with, having starred in the beloved 2005 film alongside Matthew Macfadyen. Asked if she has any advice for the new cast — led by Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy — Knightley says with a smile: “I can’t wait to see it. I mean look, you don’t need words of advice. With that cast, it’s a no-brainer. That cast, that book, what could go wrong? It’s going to be amazing.”

HBO Harry Potter: Why is Dumbledore at the beach in set photos? Speculations explored
HBO Harry Potter: Why is Dumbledore at the beach in set photos? Speculations explored
The behind-the-scenes images shared on X show John Lithgow in full Dumbledore costume, surrounded by the crew. He's seen wearing blue long robes and round glasses while donning a silver knee-length beard. Quite nostalgic? Isn't it? But the setting looks nothing like Hogwarts. The photos reveal Lithgow surrounded by the crew members as the camera rolls against the crashing waves. It's a striking visual, Dumbledore in solitude, gazing at the horizon. This has left the Harry Potter fans scratching their heads since the sequence is not a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone book. For the unversed, the HBO Harry Potter series will be of seven seasons, and each season will be based on one book. Season 1 will follow the first book, ie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. First things first, the setup could be just a random beach sequence in Season 1. Secondly, it could also mean Dumbledore's visit to a cave where the Dark Lord hid Salazar Slytherin's locket, one of his Horcruxes. This theory suggests that Dumbledore, on the beach, points out the Horcrux storyline. Confused? Remember the time when Dumbledore and Harry visited a seaside cave to retrieve Voldemort's Horcruxes? But that happens only in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. So could this early beach scene refer to something else? It sort of hints that HBO's version might be expanding on Dumbledore's backstory and how he began to investigate Voldemort's past. It's quite possible since HBO's Harry Potter promises a detailed approach, so there's ample room for analyzing some backstories that were hinted at only in Rowling's books. For longtime fans, this would be an interesting perspective, and for newcomers, it would be a pivotal sequence to understand the later plots. There's another possibility as well. Maybe the beach scene has nothing to do with Horcruxes at all. Some other set images show a character much like Nicholas Flamel, the immortal alchemist. So the beach might act as a meeting point for Flamel and Dumbledore. Two ancient wizards are discussing powerful magic. This scene could easily set the season's tone. There's also a more practical theory. Since the HBO Harry Potter is expected to take nearly a decade to complete, the production team could be filming Lithgow's later scenes early. HBO may be planning to preserve continuity before age, location, or schedule becomes a concern. Nonetheless, if this theory is true, it's a smart move. If these beach photos really show Dumbledore in an original sequence, it signals a bold, creative shift. If that's true, the reimagination is bound to feel fresh. Viewers can now enjoy Dumbledore's perspective, too, not just Harry's mentor, but as a man who has lived through several unseen battles. While the movies raced through key events, the series has the freedom to slow down and expand. Exploring Dumbledore's actions could add emotional depth and set the tone for the complex moral choices he makes. Whatever the beach scene reveals, one thing is clear: the HBO Harry Potter isn't afraid to dive deeper. The waves of speculation aren't dying down soon, and Dumbledore's images are only the beginning for something fresh.

Jimmy Kimmel Reveals His Choice for Disney’s Next CEO
Jimmy Kimmel Reveals His Choice for Disney’s Next CEO
Jimmy Kimmel has shared his thoughts on who the next Disney CEO should be. Although he thinks his opinion weighs little in the matter and that it’s “very foolish” of him to answer, he said that Dana Walden should be next in line for the role. During an interview at the Bloomberg Screentime event, Jimmy Kimmel shared that he would like to see Dana Walden, the current Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, be the next Disney CEO. “It would be very foolish for me to answer that question, but I happen to love Dana Walden very much,” Kimmel shared. “I think what has happened over the last, like three weeks, I think was very unfair to my bosses at Disney, and I don’t think anyone should ever be put in a position like this.” (via Deadline) His comments came after he credited Walden and Bob Iger, the current Disney CEO, who helped him bring his show Jimmy Kimmel Live! back on the air. He recalled having “good conversations” with the two while negotiating his show’s return. “These are people that I, I’ve known for a long time, and who I like very much, and we all wanted this to work out best,” the late-night host shared. “First of all, I ruined Dana’s weekend. It was just non-stop phone calls all weekend. But I don’t think the result, which I think turned out to be very positive, would have been as positive if I hadn’t talked to Dana as much as I did, because it helped me think everything through, and it helped me understand where everyone was coming from because I can sometimes be reactionary.”
