Basically, I argued that Gamergate and the rise of Trump were part of a larger realization on the right that they would never win a rational argument again.

So they embraced a view that politics is a revenge project on the left for besting them in the realm of rationality and ideas.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit:

There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind,

alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
ICE secretly told its officers that any time someone has been ordered removed, ICE can break down their door.

It has been accepted for generations that the only thing which can authorize agents to break into your home is a warrant signed by a judge. No wonder ICE hid this memo!

I try to avoid hyperbole when it comes to Trump policies, but this is absolutely frickin’ insane—on about eleventy different levels.

Massive, systemic Fourth Amendment violations because … reasons.

An entire political party of pure scum.
BARTIROMO: I mean, we talk about evil action from Putin going into Ukraine. People are looking at Greenland and saying, 'How is it possible the US can acquire another country even though they're pushing back?'

LUTNICK: I don't remember Greenland being another country. We're not taking over Denmark.

People confuse minority leader McConnell who saw all of Obama's appointments go through and the ACA pass, with Majority leader McConnell, who stole a SCOTUS seat, or more commonly confused McConnell with Speaker Boehner who shut down the govt in 2013

And now we will disincorporate a Federal agency because the Mayor said so.

That is how it works.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

Macron didn't concede anything in private messages to Trump, but the US Right is so high on delusional hubris that even basics of diplomatic back channels are useless as means to achieve stable outcomes.

How do you de-escalate with a US government that is obsessed with performative escalation?

US Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent:

What I am urging everyone here to do is sit back, take a deep breath, and let things play out. The worst thing countries can do is escalate against the United States.

Somehow, since Republicans have no agency, we have to just allow them to do all the reprehensible stuff they’ve always dreamed about.
