The message to ourselves is just as important: we are "we the people," we are not daunted, we will continue to resist. Demonstrations like this encourage people they're not alone, encourage in the literal sense of instilling courage, breed a sense of solidarity, let us see ourselves.....
I am pretty sure the people have spoken. This isn't what we want. And the whole point of this weekend? A message to our current president: No Kings. You work for us, not the other way around.
Trump declares war on cities

“We must expand efforts to detain & deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as LA, Chicago, & NY, where Millions of Illegal Aliens reside. These, & other Cities, are core of the Dem Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base”

Agradezco a @rutacivica

“As we endeavor to survive a regime based on barrages of lies, truth should be even dearer to us; facts are part of our arsenal and what we are defending; accuracy and honesty and carefulness are essential ways of being the opposition.
"Love of truth is an important love. Precision is as beautiful in language as it is in dance.

Getting our facts right is an important form of respect, even love, for what matters in our public conversations and political, cultural, intellectual (and personal) lives.
Right now, the kind of resistance that means, say, blocking an ICE van or joining a march matters.

But resistance to the corruption of language and the blurring of the boundaries between true and false also matters a lot in this crisis. In February 2017, I saw where we were headed and posted this:
“Being careful about the use of language is useful for surviving authoritarianism because authoritarianism seeks to control fact, truth, history, reality itself through misleading, false, inflammatory, and distorted language, as well as suppressed information, and to make it the norm…

If you read this NYT piece carefully it doesn't actually say what people seem to think it says (though it suggests it and encourages the interpretation a whole lot of people come away with).
The United States government is no longer able to protect us from real hazards, such as flash floods, because it’s shifting funds to fake hazards, such as a non-existent immigrant crime wave. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/05/u...
