Across Greece, fish farms are set to expand by 24 times their current acreage, supported by subsidies from the EU. Some Greeks are pushing back, arguing that aquaculture is damaging to the seagrass and the marine environment.

Greece has declared a three-month halt to all asylum applications for migrants arriving from North Africa. The European Union is hardening its borders, even if it means trampling on its own laws.
