Sorry I was too busy getting arrested to network

I'm so bad at branding myself. Really missed the boat when I was the only on reserve person in North America providing public commentary on international issues... wild that that happened. Like, where's my book deal?

Like... is a bake sale gonna solve missing 2 years of retirement saving? And then I'm also like lol bitch you don't even have running water

I feel like I need to stop learning the language and go back to working in a cubicle, until my body gives out. Why do I feel selfish and guilty for wanting to learn the language? Being in community and being in poverty scares me so much. Sometimes I panic and think I need to be anywhere but here

I have a chronic illness. I feel like, I don't have many years left of physical ability left. I'm scared I'm spending the last few years of physical ability I have left in a job situation that is wasting the time I have left. I feel like I should be working and saving money... I'm struggling.

Like I wish people understood the sacrifice language students are making in these programs. We only have 7 students, trying to become advanced speakers of a critically endangered language. Students sacrifice because this is all there is. This is what it's like to undo intergenerational trauma

We are not eligible for OSAP, secondary school education funding from the band, bursaries, or scholarships. Our stipend does not count as income, so we do not collect CPP, contribute to EI, or have any worker protections. Being a language student is an incredibly vulnerable place to be in.

Students in programs like these don't pay tuition, however, we do recieve a stipend of $450/week to participate. Our class time is approximately 28 hours a week, 9-3 M-F. It's a big time commitment and it's incredibly difficult to have another job and do the required studying outside of class time

I'm back studying Cayuga language full time. This program is not an accredited program, it's community designed and administered, focused intensely on teaching grammar. At the end of the program, there's no diploma, no accredited institute recognition. Just the community knowing you put the time in

An important part of my lore is knowing I spend most of my free time speaking Gayogoho:no to this cat
A very grumpy looking grey persian cat with yellow eyes glares directly at you. She also has very long curly whiskers, and very cute lil round years.

Going to a Nish wedding this weekend, going for a look so sultry that I ignite blood memory and fan the flames of ancestral inter Tribal warfare

Tired of keeping secrets for people that have harmed me... tired of being treated as disposable, only worthy of interaction when someone can make money off of me and my racialization. Tired of people who only want to maintain relationships if there's cash to be made.

Trying to pronounce a word that has a portion that has a "ohsgwhda" sound... like... Cayuga... what are you doing to me

My baby cousin was in a very traumatic car accident, which has resulted in multiple complex injuries, including having her leg amputated. The family is raising money for care costs and necessary home renovations. Please consider supporting their fundraiser www.gofundme.com/f/belyndas-a...

Our rez has had a 4 year bachelors program that is language "based", but doesn't produce language speakers. Most students augment their bachelor's with an immersion program, so they piece together funding to make ends meet. But that means an extra 3 hrs a day in evening classes

And people thinking you can learn and work, ha! Try doing another job when ur trying to spend all your brain power shedding all your intergenerational trauma. Language learning is so intense, your brain feels like goo at the end of most days. It's internalizing the mechanics of an entire worldview.

Where's all the anti colonial sugar daddy's at, someone just take care of me so I can study the language already geez

LOOK AT THIS UPDATE ON JORDAN'S PRINCIPLE THAT CAME OUT. IT IS LITERALLY THE EXACT THING JORDAN'S PRINCIPLE WAS MEANT TO ADDRESS. NO EMERGENCY FUNDS AND NO ESTIMATED TIMELINE ON DECISIONS FROM ISC WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
A Jordan's principle branded document that states student support workers cannot work without pre-approval, back pay will not be provided, there is no timeline for funding decisions, and the community has no access to emergency funds.

This type of program, that is entirely, full time, based in the language is necessary to recover our languages from the harms of residential school, are typically private/unaccredited. After 2 years of learning the language, I will gain no credential.

Like, spending 35 hours a week learning is amazing, but doing it for $1200/month + $100/week was hard. Onondaga language students will get $350/week, when a living wage in our area is $770/week
