This is the entire reason why the men who bring brides home from foreign lands: to be able to control someone. They couldn’t find a woman in their own country to control.

Separating a woman from her family, her customs, her language, her rights.
"I'm going to withdraw your sponsorship and get you deported!"
"I'm going to call ICE."
The immigration process simply becomes another vector of coercive control because there is no one to tell the victim that the abuse opens another path to citizenship and they can get help.

This is a fun holiday read. Who made Rudolph happen? A Jewish copy writer; his Jewish composer brother-in-law; the BIL’s neighbor who happened to be Arthur Rankin; and a Japanese animator who had pioneered new stop motion techniques. Now that’s an American Christmas
The Magical Animation of 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'
The Christmas television special—the longest running in history—was groundbreaking in its use of stop-motion animation with puppets

Gonna make this cookie dough before I go to bed, and I gotta find my cutters for tomorrow.

I don't know where I'll find the energy to get through this, but I'm gonna do it.

I really said, “this one the markings are more broad strokes, whilst this one,” I turn dramatically in my head. “Is more veiny.”

So now I gotta remember to look this up later because my brain has latched on and I gotta learn about it. And I left my readers at home.
I’ve lived here for 8 years and just noticed the difference between the marble in the front driveway of our building. Now, I’m no marblist, so while I don’t know the different types, I can spot patterns.

This is a lovely thread, I'll have to read it later, but I was entertained by the show, but there's no way a woman with witchy talents would insist on doing manual labor. I for one, would wait until hubby left, wriggle my little nose, and get back into bed.
Endora. Redheaded witch. Spent her time causing chaos, taking potshots at the worst aspects of trad domesticity & trolling her son in law "Derwood" (or whatever insulting name she felt like using that day). Agnes Moorehead, just thee best. Wore caftans, stole every scene, makeup to die for. ICON!!

this is a list of names Endora called Darrin, always with a perfectly calibrated smirk. I swear, I'm half convinced that, at a tender age, watching reruns of this extremely gay-coded elder red-haired witch is half the reason I turned out the way I did. I continue to aspire etc etc
