Flexible Scholarships work well in all parts of MN. And they help more than kids. By helping child care programs avoid closures, they’re also key for MN’s parents and economy. #mnleg@governorwalz.mn.gov
The availability of Scholarships can make or break MN’s most vulnerable families. Scholarships have strong bipartisan support, yet if nothing changes a cut will leave 15K kids behind. #mnleg@governorwalz.mn.gov
With federal early learning funding endangered, it’s never been more important to stand up for MN kids! So why are the #mnleg and @governorwalz.mn.gov about to allow 15K kids to be left behind?
If the #mnleg and @governorwalz.mn.gov don’t act, 15,000 children will be left behind and more child care programs will close. Cutting state funding for early learning hurts us all.
For very good reason, MN hasn't cut early care and education in 17 yrs. Now, #mnleg and @governorwalz.mn.gov are on the verge of cutting 6500 Early Learning Scholarships annually and reducing overall state investment in access to child care and preschool by 20%. "Best state in the country for kids"?
If the #mnleg and @governorwalz.mn.gov don’t act, there will be 6,500 fewer of these stories next yr and every yr after. Imagine the impact on our child care providers, parents, economy, and vulnerable children.
CEOs of Genl Mills/Red Wing Shoes/Ecolab to bipartisan #mnleg & @Tim_Walz: When budgeting during tough times, don't cut things that would reduce future costs. Ex: Cutting Erly Lrng Scholarships now will drive up future costs for special ed, health, etc. www.startribune.com/opinion-ceos...
“I first learned about Scholarships when I was in recovery from addiction to heroin and meth. Getting a Scholarship changed our lives. It marked the start of our independence...and opened up new learning opportunities for my daughter and myself." Corinne M., St. Louis Park #mnleg
One of the reasons Scholarships have such strong bipartisan support is that they are working in all areas.
The problem: 8,500 eligible children still can’t get them, due to lack of funding. That number grows to 15,000 if the Walz budget is adopted and $100M is cut. #mnleg
Shameful: Even before this yr, 8,500 of MN’s most vulnerable children couldn’t get a Scholarship to access the high-quality early learning programs they need to succeed.
Worse: If the Admin’s budget is adopted, add 6,500 children to that list.
8,500 low-income MN children are left behind without a Scholarship. If action isn't taken to stop a looming funding cut that number will grow to 15,000!
#Mnleg members, join the bipartisan push (HF470/SF1049) to STOP 🛑 the CUT ✂️.
Preventing even larger such bills in the future is even more important. Cutting funding for Early Learning Scholarships now will cost the state more later. #mnleg
