Top of the World (also known as the Top of the World Supper Club) closed at the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World on this day in 1993. It featured celebrity  entertainers, dancing, dinner, a lounge, and Sunday brunch. It would become California Grill in May of 1995. #disney #disneyhistory

CEO Michael Eisner canceled the Disney's America project on this day in 1994. The theme park was to have been built in Haymarket, Virginia, but amid opposition from citizen's groups and historians, the project was cancelled. #disneyhistory #disneysamerica

RIP Gino, the oldest gorilla living at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park died today at the age of 44. Gino was born in 1980, had 14 children, and has lived at Disney’s Animal Kingdom since the park opening in 1998.

The Disneyland Viewliner, a narrow gauge, miniature train running since June 1957, shut down at Disneyland on this day in 1958. The Disneyland Monorail System took the place of Viewliner in June of 1959.

The Mickey Mouse Revue closed after nearly 9 years in operation on this day in 1980. It was dismantled and shipped to Tokyo Disneyland, making it the first major Magic Kingdom attraction to leave the Florida park since its opening.

The General Electric Carousel of Progress closed at Disneyland on this day in 1973. Originally made for the 1964-1965 World’s Fair in New York, the attraction was moved to Disneyland in 1967 and then to Magic Kingdom in 1975. Well, that’s progress for you.

The Morocco pavilion debuted at Epcot Center on this day in 1984. It was the first country in World Showcase sponsored by the government and not a corporation. The king of Morocco even sent his royal craftsmen to lay all the tile work, carvings and paintings in the pavilion!

A new window on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland was unveiled honoring Lillian Disney and her contributions to the park. The window debuted in a private ceremony on July 13, 2025—Walt and Lillian Disney’s 100th wedding anniversary.
