Worth a read.
Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:
Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.

The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) announced that it will no longer publish content on Elon Musk’s platform, X. The organization said it can “no longer ethically participate in a social network that its owner has transformed into a machine of disinformation and propaganda.”

Clowns.
The U.S. Treasury is getting ratioed on an apparent self-own. Higher yields raise U.S. borrowing costs and often reflect market anxiety rather than strength. Investors demand higher yields when they see greater risk in holding government debt. This is not a good sign.

We don't need AI to prove that lying works, we have the Trump administration.
Two independent studies found that AI chatbots were better at persuading voters than political ads. The most persuasive bots also lied the most. This is something that humans working in psyops have known for decades. AI is psyops at scale. www.technologyreview.com/2025/12/04/1...

We got to "genocide is entertainment now" way faster than I would have guessed.
Soon, CNN will run live odds on world events where its viewers can gamble on them in real time on their smartphones. One recent Kalshi betting market that allowed people to bet on whether Palestinians in Gaza would suffer mass starvation.

The app company’s two biggest investors are also heavily invested in the Israeli military.

This really is grotesque: they went through years-long citizenship processes and are now being denied simply because if the country they are from. It’s formalized bigotry.
“She showed up as scheduled, and when she arrived, officers were asking everyone what country they were from, and if they said a certain country, they were told to step out of line and that their oath ceremonies were canceled.”

Zero evidence of harm from the vaccines. I'll be so glad when Bobby Brainworm is gone.
Breaking News: A federal vaccine committee voted to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B, a highly infectious virus that leads to chronic liver disease in most infected children.
An End to Hepatitis B Shots for All Newborns
A federal panel voted on Friday to recommend halting the at-birth shots for all infants, in a step toward Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s goal of upending the nation’s vaccine policy.

Even more restrictive than China.
For the last decade, the pervasive spread of bullshit & manipulation of online platforms have been widely recognized societal concerns. Now non US citizens studying those subjects can be labeled “censors” & denied visas or deported from the US. Censorship, indeed. www.reuters.com/world/us/tru...

An internal State Department memo said that anyone involved in "censorship" of free speech should be considered for rejection.

This is really important. Both in the fact of IMLS reinstating grants. (Which have been *crucial* for libraries and civic life across the country. Notably in rural areas.)

And in the example that the overall stalwartness and rigor of federal district/circuit courts has made a huge difference.
IMLS announces "upon further review" that it is reinstating all federal grants to libraries. It leaves out that it's doing this because a federal court told them a few weeks ago that the Trump admin's decision to destroy libraries was not legal.

Just to be clear, i didn't read it that way. My objection is to the corporations; how the industry has ruined neural net based-technologies as a descriptive term by making LLMs representative of all AI.
I don't want to make this some sort of sweeping indictment of technology, b/c many machine-learning products are extremely useful. @mitycheese.bsky.social cites OCR, translation tools & speech recognition - highly useful, yes. More broadly, well - without medical technology, I'd literally be blind..
