Ayala was interviewed but never returned for follow-up questioning.

She was charged with cruelty to children, unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, and later felony murder after the boy's death.

Over 2,000 searchers combed a 4.5-mile radius around his home using scent and cadaver dogs, drones, ATVs, helicopters, and an airplane. Despite extensive efforts, no trace of Sebastian was found.
