I've been working on some homebrew for my personal setting and I'm starting to get some of it ready to be handed out to players. Here's my lamia species!

A D&D homebrew species called the "Lamia" with art on the right depicting a lamia woman with red hair and coral snake patterns. The species text reads:
"Creature Type: Humanoid

Size: Medium (9-14 feet long)

Speed: 30 feet

As a lamia you have these special traits.

Snake body. You have advantage on saving throws to prevent the prone condition. In addition, without squeezing, you can move through and stop in a space large enough for a Small creature.

Fangs. You have fangs that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier piercing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Lamia Lineage. You are part of a lineage that grants you supernatural abilities. Choose one of the following options.

Constrictor. You gain a climb speed equal to your walk speed and your tail counts as a free hand to initiate a grapple. Whenever you inflict the grappled condition on a creature with your tail and subsequently whenever it ends its turn grappled by your tail you may deal 1d6 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage to it.

Viper. You have resistance to poison damage and when you bite a creature you can choose to use your venom against them. The creature must make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save the creature takes 1d8 Poison damage and gains the poisoned condition for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns. This damage increases by 1d8 when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8).

You can use your venom a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest."

A friend of mine suggested you have to make a perception check and the DC is pretty low. Could be funny to have it as like an optional bit, if you wanna risk an extra round in the air you have to fail consecutively easier perception checks

Here me out: A D&D feat/class feature called Coyote time: Whenever you move or are pushed off a ledge where you would start to fall you instead levitate as if you were on a solid surface until the end of your next turn. You can move up to 10ft away from the ledge before you begin to fall as normal.

Time to post one of my favorite old illustrations. :)
I created it for a group show resolving around botanical visuals. During this time I read a lot about the ISS and how they grew plants in there to test botanical behavior, which also sparked dreams about deep space travels.

I love the modern gaming experience of waiting for shaders to compile for 30 minutes, game crashes. Wait another 20 minutes for shaders to compile. Select character. Wait for shaders to compile. Play game with unstable framerate of sometimes 50-60 but mostly 25-45 if the game is nice that day.
