Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Non-zero origins don't change the scale, they change the start and the end points of the scale. (I teach this stuff for a living.)

The height one superimposed images, which is wrong.

And starting the time axis at the Big Bang would make the graph totally unreadable.

The scale is consistent - each bar is 7 days on from the other and the vertical axis is at 10000 intervals.

Both axes have a non-zero origin, but that's pretty standard maths.
