Mara’s story is not uncommon. Modern slavery takes many forms and can happen to anyone, which is why understanding how to recognise and prevent it is so important.

Mara is a survivor of modern slavery who experienced abuse at the hands of her cousin. It wasn’t until she was free that she fully realised the type, extent, and severity of what she had endured.

For years, our Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking team in Northern Ireland (MSHT NI) has been at the forefront of supporting survivors in Northern Ireland.
Anyone can be an exploiter. There’s no specific look, age, gender, race, or faith – which is why it’s crucial to take precautions and protect those who may be vulnerable.
