Thank you. The paper was prepared with clear gesso before I drew on it.
Here is a short video of me painting a small buon fresco study of a cherub originally painted by Renaissance master Raphael. Buon fresco is an ancient technique of painting onto freshly spread / wet lime plaster. #fresco #art #painting #cherub #figurepainting #figuredrawing #angel #frescopainting

Yes that’s why I like Rembrandt pastels too, they are easier to control, like a drawing as compared to a painting.
I used a 15-piece set of Rembrandt pastels on gray charcoal paper. I find the gray paper easier to use than white paper.
Thanks! It’s pretty straightforward actually and very similar to graphite drawing. The main difference is that instead of using a graphite pencil you use a wire of silver.
That’s awesome! I have been using Rembrandt pastels since I was a student more than 30 years ago. Now I have my students buy the fifteen price set too! They are definitely my pastel of choice.

I hope they give you a good discount! 😃
I use Rembrandt pastels although I have several sets of much pricier pastels too, like Terry Ludwig and the Great American pastel label (I forget their name); they’ve been in storage for several years.

Mostly I use the 15 piece Rembrandt set plus a set of four grays from light to dark.
Thanks Eric! You should give them a go! They are a lovelies painting in some ways.
A figure study I completed using Rembrandt pastels, which was a demonstration for a class I was teaching. Thanks for looking! #traditionalart #figuredrawing #art #pasteldrawing #lifedrawing #pastelart #charcoaldrawing #drawing #painting #pastelpainting #traditionalartist #Rembrandtpastels
Bravo! The world needs more optimism! Good start btw, I like the border.
Thank you. Also, you can probably tell that I did some edge work around the hair with a traditional brush.
Yes! I use pigment ground into distilled water and o
Load it into my airbrush and spray it on wet lime plaster.
Thank you Steve! Yes I was trying to push the technique a bit towards contemporary aesthetics.
Thanks Collin! It is a bit unforgiving for sure!
