Could be established. They wanted people to freely practice any form of religion they deemed fit. Even the founders themselves had different religious beliefs. Yet, they all came together and established a separation of church and state.

You can't have freedom of religion without freedom from religion. Our founders knew from their history that this was the case. War over religion in the 16th-18th centuries ravaged Europe. They didn't want our nation to follow that, so they wrote it into our Constitution that no national religion....
