like the pace of the learning was slow, or the actual website was laggy?
question: has anyone ever used boot (dot) dev? is it actually any good for teaching how to program? i have no desire to use it, i just see it as a sponsorship segment in youtube videos a lot and was genuinely curious because you know. i make websites
before and after... this is definitely how i wanted these to look years ago but i didn't know how at the time. it's the small things in this refactor that are bringing me joy
last night before i went to bed, my girlfriend reminded me to also have fun and not just work all the time. they’re probably right, but i also didn’t know how to say β€œworking on BMF is fun” before i passed out lol
a kind of neat thing is there's a new breakpoint between the three column desktop view and the one column mobile view now. so glad to finally apply CSS grid knowledge to BMF after all these years because doing this was a walk in the park (the affiliates and stuff are at the bottom)
finally taking a break after coding pretty much all of my waking hours. i'm tired. i think i'm all CSS and JavaScripted out lol.
i got a lot done! i already have most of BMF's (mobile responsive) layout recreated from scratch with better code. still have a CSS to-do list but i'm getting there...
to clarify, the way i had BMF before was also like this, with a script that inserts the sidebars. but i still had a bunch of empty elements on the page that the script "filled in", plus it relied on jquery for that single purpose (i wasn't using jquery anywhere else on the site haha)
no more jquery!
the head is longer but mostly unchanging
i am dedicated to keeping BMF 100% static HTML/CSS/JS, but i also want a little bit of the benefits of static site generators to make my life easier, so i wrote a script that dynamically places the sidebars and stuff on every page... and now my page template's body looks like this lol
when i was first starting i didn't know about any of this stuff so i got off on the wrong foot...!! it's a lot of work to refactor a site's structure after a long time, so i wish more people were told immediately how to do the basics of their layout right from the start...
i know this advice probably seems obvious to any professional developer who learned how to make websites via more traditional methods but due to the focus on old-school design, a lot of old advice gets parroted in ie. neocities communities. your website can look old without being inaccessible!
i'm currently making a new template for pages on BMF and it feels so good to finally use CSS grid and have an HTML document that is semantically sensible for screenreaders, etc. using tables for layout is the worst holdover advice for indie webdevs. if you're doing that i'd learn CSS grid. please
could not agree more with everything you've said here. it's super frustrating. the idea of websites as a creative/personal endeavor isn't even in most people's consciousness anymore...
i have little emotional reaction to these because they’re so… not related to my site that i just assume a bot is sending them instead of a real person. but they are super annoying when they slip through my spam filter!!

I just want to talk about the future of Blue Moon Falls a little bit (don’t worry, all good things!) so I’m going to use this thread to do that.
You’ve probably noticed that site updates have been nonexistent despite me officially coming out of hiatus. Well, there’s a few reasons for that:
when we met in person, i also noticed how bad your dark circles were... by the time you left, they were noticeably better. πŸ’”wish things at home were easier for you
disability strikes again. having sleeping issues lately and a really bad symptom flare up. even if i wasn't, i still am not able to drive and i don't know if i could have gotten anyone to take me. lol
i am still trying to source an extra shiny 'raidon code for a friend. i couldn't go to gamestop today... i literally slept through the restock. if anyone has an extra code and would be willing to work out a trade with me, please let me know...!!
i'm glad people still get use out of my site when i'm away. that's the wonder about websites i guess!
i know a good amount of retro pokemon players use BMF, but especially because i've been so inactive this year, i keep getting jumpscared when people recognize me in the wild... joined a stream and was not trying to take attention away from the streamer but people recognized me oops haha
it's actually awful. i really hope TPC responds to the backlash and at least apologizes because it's really indefensible
posts that hit different as someone born with a c-section
i'm almost surprised you were able to get TCG stuff! that's a small win at least...
