Wishing @ianmortimer.bsky.social would hurry up and finish his book about the people who lived in his house over the centuries. I've lived in 2 cities on the US west coast, and nobody knows what was on a spot 200 years ago, not even those whose ancestors lived hereabouts. Odds are it wasn't a house.

I am applying to Mol Bio grad school... As a 54yo industry scientist who hasn't been in a lab in 20 years. Yes, most profs definitely nope out when they see my CV and/or me. But I only need one. How do you like my chances? #MolBio #iTeachBio #gradschool

It is not safe to share your feelings with someone who will not share their feelings with you. Even if you know they would never deliberately hurt you, it is an inherently disadvantageous situation -- and hurt you will be.

Whether someone is an asshole is a them problem. It's not my job to decide that. I need better endpoint protection.

@tubanater44.bsky.social If YOU asked her, do you think that other Susanna Clarke would join the party?

I moved to Portland in 2022. For the first time here, I was in stop-and-go traffic for 6-7 miles. That's every day in LA: you get on the freeway, and (unless you crash) you cannot affect in any way how long it takes to get somewhere. It's like being in a sailboat. No-choice inactivity. I miss it.
