can't bring myself to post on the other bird app anymore. Cried hard this weekend at hearing the anthem (a race-start tradition, ran half marathon w/ my mom). She got us out of a country which keeps enabling "strong men" to "just tell everyone what to do". Tryna salve the dissonance with connection.

TIL: the "fertility" of a tokenizer is the average number of tokens per word (from Efficiently Adapting Pretrained LMs to New Languages, arxiv.org/abs/2311.05741, anyone got more papers like this, most efficient recipes for teaching LLMs a new domains/styles/language (esp beyond few shot prompting)?

I read/listen a lot, author voice is so distinct/near-synesthetically-world-weaving for me, any higher-level textures of slop so grating. Perhaps because its optimization is atomized/digital instead of holistic/integrated across scales? Hewn by money, polished by likes. Real writing feeds on soul.
People only inspired by money tend to write slop.
