As a reminder, this month I'm posting old drawings of various invertebrate animals, one for each day of the month of October. 11 down, 20 more to go!
This month I'll be (cross)posting old drawings of invertebrate animals. One per day, every day. So if you hate bugs, worms, octopuses, etc, you can mute a tag or key words, mute me, unfollow me, do any of the above for just the month, or forever, I don't care.

But, nature and biodiversity are important to me. And if you care to learn about me then I hope you'll stick around for Invertebrate art and facts. If you learn why I like them, maybe you can learn to like them too. I hope you discover something new, fascinating, delightful, beautiful.

Hello #portfolioday

My name's Leo, I'm a comic and board artist. I'm rolling off of my current storyboard directing job in mid-November and I'm looking for a new production to jump into!

Here's some of my work from Nickelodeon's Kamp Koral.

Drop me a line, let's work together! 🤙

Oh it's #PortfolioDay 🐡 I'm Yotty. I have a lot of range, from animation to game asset production. My favorite thing to do is character-centric illustrations or designs.

I love older anime (80-90s era) of many genres and also TTRPGs

just finished watching the Critical Role Sydney/Melbourne live shows. I learned of several Australian things from watching them, such as the Shoey, and i am absolutely reeling from watching the entire cast doing it. I'm losing my mind. i'm shook. mad respect to them for doing it. still nasty tho lol

So even the humble sponge-- the most unassuming of all multicellular animals, with no brain, no sensory organs, no muscles, only meeting bare minimum requirements for even being called an animal-- must not be underestimated…

Strangely enough, despite the plant-like branches and root structures present, this is in fact an animal. Stranger yet, despite being sessile, it is in fact carnivorous. This deep sea sponge feeds on small organisms that get ensnared on its spicules by secreting a digestive membrane over them. Yum.

Chondrocladia lyra - harp sponge (2019)

#invertebrates #seasponge #art #sciart
A drawing of a sea sponge that sort of resembles four harps standing back to back with each other. That's probably a bad analogy; I don't even know what the back of a harp is. Anyway, they're all radiating out from a central point. Thicker "branches" extend out at the bottom, with many slender vertical branches extending upwards from them, resembling the strings of a harp. The top of each vertical branch is rounded like a ball. Ink and watercolor.

I would still love you if you became a worm, ESPECIALLY a gossamer worm. These worms spend their entire lives swimming in the water column, have yellow bioluminescence (not depicted here), and their legs move like a mesmerizing ripple when swimming. What a freaky, gorgeous, ghostly little creature.

The basket star is a type of brittle star, a close relative of the sea star. The average brittle star has five long spindly arms. Some species have very daintily and orderly branched arms. And some like Gorgonocephalus have thick fleshy curling arms that make them look like eldritch nightmares.

Gorgonocephalus arcticus - basket star (2019)

#invertebrates #brittlestar #echinoderm #art #sciart
An orange brittle star with 10 thick fleshy looking arms extending from its central disc. The arms split and branch out numerous times, almost like the roots of a plant, but fleshy curly and strange looking. Ink and watercolor.

Leafcutter ants don't get enough credit for inventing agriculture millions of years before humans did. They carefully cultivate a fungus grown inside the colony, and then feed it to their young in an obligatory mutualistic relationship. Neither ant nor fungus species can survive without the other.

Atta cephalotes - leafcutter ant (2019)

#invertebrates #insects #ants #art #sciart
A queen leafcutter ant. She is very large.
4 soldier ants. They're less than half the queen's size, but have disproportionately large heads.
7 worker ants. They're half the size of the worker.

all in ink and watercolor

Happy World Octopus Day! 🐙

If you are crazy about octopuses, you've probably already read "The Soul of an Octopus" by Sy Montgomery. And if you're not, you should read it and then maybe you'll become crazy about octopuses.

(Plural of octopus is octopuses. Please delete octopi from your brain data)

hands up if you are a true bug and suck sap from plants
Shivaphis celti, the Asian woolly hackberry aphid, also known as Shivaphis (Shivaphis) celti, is an aphid in the superfamily Aphidoidea in the order Hemiptera. It is a true bug and sucks sap from plants.

Pictured is schivapis celti, a small white bug that looks like a speck of lint, sitting on a leaf
