NGL, glad I have a day off and it’s shitty out so I don’t feel guilty sleeping till noon and spending the rest of the day deep cleaning my apartment
Soooo much harder to do when the weathers nice

Also did the math, and I would have gotten home two hours earlier if I had driven back to Brooklyn from Detroit

AFM 802 voted to authorize a strike if necessary. Hopefully this sends a clear message to the Broadway League that they can’t cut our pay and health benefits without expecting a fight. AEA and AFM are a united front now, solidarity forever!

Trump said he deserved a cut for brokering the TikTok deal, and at once there was agreement that his son Baron would have a top executive slot... though he hasn't asked for it, and has no apparent qualifications to hold it. This is how Trump 2.0 works. www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025...

The New Yorker in me still always surprised when I have a good meal outside of NYC 🤡

Isn’t it funny how they still do low horn/high horn in Europe where the low horns are still expected to have high chops but all the high horns can’t play below middle C

I also remember bringing Shosti 5 to my lessons in London and my teachers (all principal horns) were like “oh you don’t have to play this, you’re the principal horn!”. One even told me job the committee gave it to him as sight reading once and he refused to play it but they still gave him the job 🙃

Small orchestras (small as in per-service/local) orchestras ask it on auditions as a way to let you know they won’t hire you an assistant

Had this confirmed to me by a trumpet player on the OC of a local ROPA orchestra I auditioned for

Ooof that’s rough

My horn audition pre-lim horror list:

1. Shosti 5 low tutti
2. Brandenberg Trio w/rpts
3. Candidate dismissed

Also related to my pet peeve of orchestras asking Brandenburg when they know they will never program it

Also Wagner, would love to see the look on that shit heads face when he sees a woman (!) play his Long Call in a garage

Ravel, I love his music so so so so much but his horn parts can be absolutely treacherous

Sad to hear this is the culture in Minneapolis, was there a few weeks ago and found it very walkable. Especially enjoyed walking along the river path to get back downtown after getting incredible Hmong food at Diane’s Place. A meal+walk I’ll never forget!

TLDR of what's happening with the Broadway contract negotiations
meredithmoo25.bsky.social
ATM my union, AFM 802, is voting to authorize a strike in solidarity w/AEA as we both negotiate w/the Broadway League of Producers for a fairer contract. A question that came up in a recent meeting was: “how do we explain the importance of our jobs to those outside our field”
Here is my attempt:
